A bit heavy, but the arrival of February has had me thinking today of how I'll probably never be in love again (especially not to the same intensity; my schizoid traits recently intensified), and it's just a disappointing reality to face. I don't mean having a relationship-- I can do that extremely easily-- I mean actually experiencing thoughtful, emotional love for another.

I remember when I still had that emotion. I was permanently happy; my body was healthy and in peak shape; I had discipline and resolve to accomplish anything; I could give myself instant shocks of joy and pleasure just from thinking about my lover, no touch or interaction was even required.

LIfe now feels quite colorless in comparison. I will continue painting it in with my dark and grimy colors though. They make for interesting texture.

Edit: Oh, hey! On a lighter note, I just noticed I have bananas! Sweet. I'm going to eat all of them.

I forgot my dream, so here's a fun Death™ fact instead.

While the practices of cremation and embalming did exist within medieval Europe, it was seen as highly taboo due to religious authorities emphasizing post-mortem modesty and minimal tampering with bodies. The vastest majority of bodies were buried raw after being given a washing or, during the Black Death, quarantined and thrown into mass graves.
Rarely, though, some bodies did get embalmed. The practice was reserved for public figures, royalty and, weirdly enough, saints (more on this later). The method that undertakers of the time used was embalming with ethanol (alcohol) and turpentine (pine tree oils) mixed with mercury-based salts. Afterwards, veins and arteries would be filled with wax. This was the "safer", albeit less efficient and more costly method.
Some daring undertakers of the medieval ages, whom often also fulfilled the roles of being torturers and executioners thanks to their extensive knowledge of human anatomy, used arsenic as an embalming substance. Arsenic was a common and lethal poison used by assassins of the time. Arsenic worked extremely well, too well; no organic life could decompose the body without dying, leading to massive longevity. However, the undertakers themselves would often be poisoned from prolonged exposure, leading to chronic health issues; and having to sacrifice your own life for a dead body isn't a fair bargain, if you ask me.

Now, about the saints...

Knowledge of embalming was very rare and taboo within the time period. Most people didn't even know that such a thing exists, as morticians and coroners were not an established concept. A Christian concept exists known as 'incorruptibility', where the bodies of saints are so holy that they do not decompose, and they gain a pleasant odor as opposed to a putrid one. There are verified historical accounts witnessing this phenomenon. However, there's more to it.
Whenever a saint would die, some of them would secretly get embalmed (in spite of it being taboo), and then they'd be "posthumously" discovered as incorrupt upon exhuming their cadaver. The clergy would then present it as proof of a divine miracle to the rest of society. They had many reasons to do this: Strengthen faith and authority, gain recognition and fame, etcetera. Embalmed bodies are unrecognized as incorrupt, but only on paper.

I love death...

The website did go down for a pretty long time, so most people went off to occupy themselves with something else.
