i feel like its pretty self-explanatory but in case its not:

would you rather be dealing with the aftermath of abuse (mental illness) or the abuse itself. im not exactly sure how else to explain it so in case someone doesnt understand if someone else whats to explain what i mean, please go for it lol.

That's a difficult question because they can both be terrible.

I suffered from some abuse when I was younger and I believe it's what has triggered my depression. Over 10 years later and I'm still feeling the effects of what happened.

Both were very traumatic for me, but the aftermath is a bit easier to deal with since I have time to fill it with distractions.

I don´t think I quite understand, to me it seems like the too correlate with each other like cause and effect (effect being aftermath) like someone being bullied throughout their youth develops social anxiety and low self-esteem etc.
