They're under over 4cm of tissue and you'd also have to make sure you don't get your trachea in the process. Looking at anatomy diagrams, this seems nearly impossible to do to yourself.

Femoral arteries are easier to access imo. They might be a tad deeper than the carotids, but I knew someone who CTB through a ruptured femoral artery.
