The worst part about it is that you will regret it, in the moment. You'll smell yourself burning, you'll feel the worst pain you've ever felt in your entire life, and it won't be quick. As a young child I fell into a campfire and I wasn't in it long, but I remember that was the worst pain I'd ever felt. I don't even know how I slept that night, I mostly remember crying. It wasn't bad enough for hospitalization and I don't have scars from it so it wasn't even that bad of a burn. Trust me this is literally the worst way to die.

depending on the heat of the flame, you can die only after minutes of pain, it is not instantaneous. and if you happen to change your mind about the pain and decide to roll on the floor to put out the fire, you will be hospitalized for days or months feeling very strong and agonizing pains, that is, I do not think it is a good method.
if you do not care how your body will stay, and if you also do not have the fear of do ctb, then throw yourself from a height of more than 25 m into the concrete with your head down or your back. It is effective and very fast.

I've tried every building in town, and they have bars taller than me that I can't climb, and there are no landscapes like cliffs where I can jump from. Self Immolation is my way to go.

OP,

I suppose it can be done if you are sure it is lethal, your self preservation instinct won't overcome your attempt to kill yourself and noone will stop you. gruesome way to die though.

That's exactly what I've been thinking. Any ways to increase the effectiveness besides buying a fire accelerant? Does dehydration help? What about wearing clothes or not?

You guys have prob seen this chart before but #12 is set yourself on fire.
Setting yourself on fire is pretty much the worse way to die pain wise. I know 2 people who have done it , one died, one didn't. The one that died went to a secluded area here they would not be found for several days, the one that survived went to a petrol station and poured petrol over themselves, they survived because a passerby intervened and saved them but they where badly burned, severely disfigured and have lifetime of surgery to endure. Its a good method if you want to suffer as much as a person can and it won't be quick...

I'm also a university student that's under tight control due to previous failed attempts, so I can't do anything like charcoal. I need something swift that won't cause much suspicion if any at all. That's why I'm really leaning towards this method.

Hello I've decided against OD'ing and instead I have been thinking about setting myself on fire. I know it's an agonizing way to die but at this point I can't be bothered, I want something sure. My question is how effective is this method, and what can I do in order to increase its effectiveness?

it's a stupid idea. You will be in excruciating pain and screaming. Then people will find you and 'save' you-you will be in hospital for many months.
Have you ever burned yourself?
I burned my hand rather deeply (around 5 square centimeters) and it really, really hurt.
You live in America, the land where everyone has guns according to your picture. Why not buy yourself a gun and take some poison beforehand?

Im sorry, this is just plain stupid. The moment you start burning you will beg for any relief. Sheer unimaginable pain that will make your current problems seem like pennies. If you survive you will be in excruciating pain for months and disfigured for life. If you die, your last moments will be pure hell. We only have one death and its not going anywhere. Why not wait for the right moment and make it beautiful, certain and stay in control?

I burnt my arm on the oven while cooking. Didn't think anything of it and now it is bad and blistered and hurts like hell. And that's from brushing up once on a hot oven while turning over a roasted chicken. Very painful method

yeah, me too. Had a pretty bad 2nd degree burn with blistering-it hurt for days and then I had a scar there for about 10 years which eventually faded away.
This guy does not know what he is talking about-other methods are much, much better.
the pain led me to think about what we do to other living beings, people boil lobster alive and they can feel it-people make me sick

This would be the last method on my list.
Ive seen far too many documentaries and listened to people who have been burned and scarred for life to know, this is probably the worst way to go out.
If I had a choice of being forced to live and die like this, id choose staying alive and even that is a bad enough punishment.
For your sake please look into other methods but its your life no one can stop you.

Burn your arm on a candle (which isn't very much heat) just hold it there and see if you can...burn yourself on something from the oven an endure the blisters and pain and awfulness that comes with it. Trust me, my mom's a cook and has more than her share of burns. You DO NOT want to do this.

Jump off a building if you're lacking possibilities. Just make sure it's tall (remember each story is approximately 10 feet). And no one is underneath you.

I'll See You Guys On The Other Side Of The Rainbow

There's a room with very few furniture at my home. I'll just subtly move them out of the way when everyone's asleep or away and lock myself in.

I highly recommend a different method, cause while there's a chance it might work out for you, I'm taking into consideration the people around you and the risk of you failing. It's too risky that you'll injure other people with this method or you'll be saved before you die but only after you've already severely injured yourself. For some reason, I'm not convinced that the fire will only be contained in your room, and since I'm assuming this house isn't isolated from society, there's a chance a neighbor will see the fire and call for help. Also, where and how will you start the fire? What will happen once you get the fire started? Will you willingly put yourself on fire?

Don't burn yourself alive. Don't be a fucking idiot. You're having this thought because you didn't yet experience the pain of it. After you start to burn, you'll regret it. You will die in pain and agony, hopeless. Hang yourself or drown yourself in an open lake, or just buy a gun if you're american. Abstract thinking won't help you catch the bus. You need to think practically.

I burned my fingers once (second degree) and it was hell. Nothing comparable to being suffocated or stabbed, and it was just 2 fingers.

Let him burn. If that's how he wants to go. Not my personal choice but oh well. I just hope he succeeds.

Monks sometimes kill themselves this way to protest, but with all of their meditation skills you'd think they'd be able to pass out at will or make themselves not feel any pain. You're not a monk.

We've told him over and over again, and he's determined to go with this method.
Then he needs to be told again, until his mind realizes the difference between internet information and actual real life first person lived experiences. I know I'm being arrogant, but he's really going to regret this.

Every suicide method has its risk. And even though I know that survival instincts are going to kick in and that I am going to regret it at the moment, does it really matter at that point given that I will be locked in a room?

I wouldn't call the police on this guy, because if he gets sent to a psych ward, after he gets out he'll burn himself anyway. I just hope he changes his mind. I respect choices when they're the product of good reasoning like the fact that one should kill himself because life itself is a bad and all, but I don't respect impulsive choices like this one. If he wants hell, I can't stop him. But I still think this is wrong.

Survival instinct and agonizing pain are two different things mate. Yes it matters because you're going to live it and it will matter to you in those seconds that will feel like an eternity. I made many threads on hanging, use that method instead. Full suspension is 100% death.
