I want to try cutting myself, not to ctb, just for some self harm to let out some steam. I was wondering what places to cut in safely without the risk of accidental death?

Not super knowledgeable or experienced wrt cutting, myself, but honestly, it's hard to *accidentally* kill yourself when doing it unless you're going super deep, or you let the cuts get (and stay) infected afterwards. If you want to play it safe the outsides of your upper arms are a good spot, and slightly easier to hide than the wrists. Thighs are a common spot, but the inner thigh is a *tiny* bit risky due to there being an artery in there, although it's pretty deep in. If you're scared of hitting a vein or whatever the wrists/inner forearm are obviously right out. A less conventional spot is the "flanks," like the sides of your torso, starting a bit below the waist and ending a bit below the ribs. Easy to hide, lots of lasting soreness even if you don't go that deep, though YMMV based on body type and stuff.

As a few final notes that're probably obvious but worth including anyway, horizontal lines are preferred to vertical. Get to know your tool a little bit before actually using it, i.e. get a feel for how sharp it is/how much pressure you should use for your desired level of injury, that kind of thing, rather than just going crazy with it and potentially doing more damage than you intend to.

Not on your arms or lower legs, or anywhere not usually covered by clothing, those get found easily. You can't really accidentally kill yourself from self harm, it's already hard enough to suicide from cutting. I usually cut on my chest, stomach and thighs. Those areas are almost always covered by clothing.

Past few times I've self harmed I've gone to muscle and caused lasting damage, mostly on my arm but also on my leg which affects my walking to this day. It takes a lot of physical and mental effort to go so deep, and even then you'll likely bleed a lot and fuck up your body but be unsuccessful in CTB. Does the trick as a coping mechanism for me, but not something I'd recommend for any purpose. Not worth the damage.

from my experience, i've found the part of my arm right below the shoulder to be the best place to cut. if you're wearing a short sleeve t-shirt the scars usually don't show, and there's little to no risk of you killing yourself.

When I have self harmed (and I still do) I tend to do stomach, upper and lower arms, on my wrists, thighs, lower legs. I've even done attempted across my chest. I lways cover up anyway, so no one sees any scars or wounds.

Forearms and outer thighs are usually the safest. Keep in mind most of the danger from self harm usually has little to do with whats actually being cut if done right (unless it's deep of course), it's infections.

This is a pretty simple diagram but it shows those parts of your body that have more fat and less bacteria or exposed nerves/tendons. In terms of covering it, it depends on what you do. If you're a swimmer, upper legs or stomach depending on your choice of swimwear. Otherwise, upper arm just below the shoulder or upper (and outer!!!!) thighs. Or scattered and infrequent/shallow enough that they don't draw suspicion as being from self harm.

Be careful. Only ever use clean tools, wash wounds with water and don't use alcohol or hydrogen peroxide becus it just damages healthy tissues.

Everyone's given great advice, I always do my thighs. The top part of them. Once I did the inner and there was too much blood for my comfort.
