This is interesting, it's usually the youngest who's the golden child bc the parents have their youngest kids when they're more experienced and "ready", but the eldest tends to be the "burden" or an experiment
I think my parents started developing personal problems (alcoholism, etc) *around the same time* as me being around, and the two became associated.

I have been reading about birth order theory recently.

It seems birth order has little to do with self destructive/suicidal ideation due to the inconsistency of results from all papers I was able to find.

It is still an interesting topic and does not necessarily devalue birth order's influence on other areas of psychological development.

im the youngest

i have a sister, 4 years older than me

whilst she took every decision in her life right (become a doctor in medicine, marry with a guy with a good job, two babies coming, they have a good house in a good place), I did the opposite :)

Youngest of three. I was actually an unplanned pregnancy that my parents decided to follow through with even though they already had 2 kids. Can't help but feel resentful somewhat since they already had 2 kids, they didn't really need a 3rd.

I'm the youngest. I was an accident baby; my mom didn't know she was pregnant with me at first so she kept drinking and smoking for a bit longer than she should have… and then out came me — full of heart deformities and other birth defects. Yay! 🙃

I am the second child but have a younger halfbrother. I didn't won the gene lottery and i am female so I was always abandoned and mistreated. Both my parents are ill people, they are alcohol addicts and disabled. I have only the ugliness from them and I have also no skills. I just sit in my room and wait to be homeless or dead. I could not have any nice achievements average and pretty women have but I am proud to have no children. Antinatalism is a nice coffin for me imo, I wanted to make a graphic novel and music for it. I printed a blanket too.

Youngest. Scapegoat. Everyone's punching bag (figuratively and literally) while havimg to be the friend, therapist, etc etc. Never really having space to be me. Moving away from my family was essential. Couldn't even take care of my health until I physically moved away.

Like finally got sleep test done in 2022 (in my mid twenties) despite being an insomniac and falling asleep like all the time, everywhere, always tired from grade 7 onwards.

So many health issues that I was only able to address once I moved like 8 hrs away.

And as a psychology nerd I STILL cannot understand how things were that bad/like that.

Relatable only downside is I must have body dysmorphia because I'm told I look intimidating attractive so I'm only approached most of the time by vulgar weirdos could be all the black who knows but I support you your short description is quite relatable to some degree,,
Especially the no children part and mistreatment and just addicts and stuff just they where my brothers guess my parents where the first alcoholics tho Because never did I not see a drink in there hand when I was a "kid" though there always was this stupid perfect imagine they still tried to keep as they attempted to raise us in the religion my mom was born into and while they'd pick and choose what to follow within that religion whenever it's seem to benefit them even the smallest of things, plus my "hero" has been on and off drug addict for 13 years he's my eldest brother. And even my other brothers have there addictions alcohol, tobacco, different kinds of pills, and fights and money and there image,, I'm sorry for the reply just get your feeling obviously not entirely cuz I'm not you but I'm just sorry it's like this for you and for me and for others here...

Biologically, I'm an only child. If you count step siblings, I'm the youngest. I'd prefer to have remained an only child! One step sibling is why I developed ideation to begin with.

Interesting that the majority so far are the youngest sibling. Maybe bullying is rife in lots of families.

This is disheartening to see.

I've noticed a lot of older siblings are "my mother just punched me, mothers are the best, what do you mean she's an evil, violent, narcissistic psychopath? No way! I love her, she was just disciplining me! Mothers can do no wrong! We should all worship her as a goddess!" while younger siblings are often "Your mother didn't buy you a Ferrari for fun?! Get a new mom! You deserve better, Queen!". I love the fierceness and strength and encouraging nature of younger siblings while older siblings are too often momma's yes-boys. Or at least that's how it is for those born in 80s and 90s in Finland.

I thought that was interesting too, givin the stereotype that the middle and eldest children suffer from higher expectations or pressure , while the youngest might face more direct forms of bullying from siblings.

It's sad how family dynamics can shape pain in such different ways I know very well myself,, like in your case, where it wasn't just about birth order but the step sibling dynamic too coming into play,,
It really shows how each role can carry its own kind of struggle.

Knowing no one's pains greater then another kinda thing mabye helps me just a little bit but it's just about impossible to believe I have any right to feel bad at all,,, even if my relationships with my family can look picturesque from a stranger's perspective, when the solitary I'm still stuck with every lack of any acknowledgement to care or question what's presented publicly.

I'm the youngest out of two by six years

If we're going by stereotypes, then I do fit the mold of "the spoiled younger sibling" since I often got a lot of luxuries that my older sibling didn't. Although, a lot of the spoiling came because I was a very fragile kid (both emotionally and physically), so I often got sick. It could've also been because, from the moment I came out of the womb, there was something wrong with me in one way or another. Add the fact that I nearly got taken away by child protective services as an infant and it makes sense as to why I was sheltered as a kid

Well, physically sheltered. A couple of years after the iPad came out, they purchased one for me so as to avoid wasting their money on toys and other plastic items they'd eventually have to throw away. Unrestricted Internet access can change a person, but I guess they got their money's worth since I stopped pestering them for toys from then on

I guess I pay for the spoiling now as an adult since my mother uses it as financial blackmail (is that a term?) against me. Plus, because my older sibling wasn't the perfect child they wanted, a lot of the expectations fall onto me. It sucks, but there's not much I can do
