If yes how can I monetize my success? I can't live solely from the internet fame I get. Do I have to fart in glas bottles and sell it to you guys and girls? Or do I have to take a bath and sell the water with which I cleaned myself?

I already said if there were ads shown on SaSu we the creators should get a piece of that cake. I can very well imagine that brands want to get associated with a forum like this one. Maybe Meta, Amazon and X want to profit of the high reputation of this forum. Maybe one day Elon Musk buys this forum and we all get rich.

I had this idea for this thread when I listened to a lecture about media consumption. Why do some readers turn to smaller content creators and not to high quality gatekeepers of the press.
I mean you can read my posts on SaSu for free. I am not sure if they have the same quality as articles of a good newspaper. There are some really bad op-ed columns in German news media I might can compete with that.

But why do people actually read my threads and posts? Maybe I am relatable, sometimes funny and self-aware, maybe out of pity, maybe to distracts oneself from one's own issus, maybe out of boredom.

Why do I spend my free time on SaSu? Why do I debate people on politics on here.

The people on here are real, genuine and compassionate. The forum is alive not like most other forums. And I am contributing my part to it. I like a lot of people on here. I like it to be raw and unfiltered. I could not be like that on other platforms. And you can easily get mocked in other platform if you are vulnerable.

Posting on a forum is like running out into the streets and shouting to your neighbors. We're giving it away for free. It's public domain the moment you shout it.

I did that once. Shouted at my neighbours across the fence. 30 minutes later I had 8 police officers jump on me and I spent the next 2 months in a psych ward. So yeh i know how that goes now 🤣

I've never done that... I think I've seen others doing it... but I can't remember seeing anything happen to them over it, though.

Apparently they were concerned for my well being and relayed it to emergency services, I guess that explains it

I guess it depends on what you were yelling and how you were yelling it.

I used to go to comic book conventions. There was a long stretch where I didn't go for years, and then post-COVID I started going again until last year when I lost my job.

Anyway, there was one convention I used to go to every year, and there was ALWAYS a guy or two, sometimes a girl with them, outside the front of the convention center the WHOLE WEEKEND yelling about everyone going to hell... and it made for a crazy surreal scene with people cosplaying as various anime characters, Klingons, and super-heroes being yelled at about how they were sinners going to hell as they were going to a family-friendly comic convention.

Nobody ever called the cops on those obviously crazy people in front of the place.

Sure, we're doing it to entertain ourselves and others- hopefully. Like creating a mutual source of distraction.

I'm so glad it isn't monetized though. It's such a relief to not have to watch an advert after every three posts or something. I can't imagine any company would want to be associated with a forum freely discussing suicide.

I suppose I have my own bias against social media and the need to be adored. To collect followers and likes. Maybe it's natural to want to feel appreciated and, part of a group but, I've never liked competition much.

If you want to be monetized for your writing, have you considered journalism? Although, I guess AI could probably now identify you from here- if someone used it for that.

Randomly, I found some posts of mine in a Google search earlier. I forget what I was searching for... but I have some responses in the non-private section that gets archived for public search... so that was interesting.

I don't consider myself a 'content creator' at least in the sense of like just doing things for popularity. Most of my lengthy articles stem from my thoughts, experiences, and things I find interesting. I partly do it to vent and to have a space where I can express myself (which I couldn't do anywhere else!), but also part of me has a drive and motivation that perhaps some of my works may influence the pro-choice philosophy and stance even long after I'm no longer around (one day).
