honestly, the only thing stopping me from ctb is the idea of going to hell. but what if i just racked up all those good deeds and then ctb. like i'll dedicate my last year or so trying to be the best muslim/person i can be and then ctb. I know I'd probs still go to hell but it'll hopefully ease my mind that I might get a less torturous punishment.

Hello i am a muslim too . I am also scared to ctb for the same reason . unfortunately suicide and depression made me loose a bit fate in everything . i don t plan to ctb right now because i know i will go to hell even if i die from natural causes . i want too to become a better muslim.I am a former muslim but the only thing I can tell is that if you think that islam is true, and you are not sure about ctb, don't do it.
This is a one way go, you have not to be impulsive and clearly evaluate your situation before doing such a big thing.

in Islam ctb is considered a sin. in the Quran it says "And kill not yourselves. Surely, Allah is Merciful to you". it is a sin but allah will forgive you

All islamic scholar condemn ctb and that is because you cite 4:29 but in the next verse 4:30 :
And whoever does this sinfully and unjustly, We will burn them in the Fire. That is easy for Allah.

Idk about it but I previously read on wiki that there is a way to ctb without actually going to hell, It's called "Indirect Suicide".
