Anyone got memory loss?

Like idk I was abused pretty rough growing up so I think that's where most of my memory loss comes from. I can't remember a single memory outside of vivid memories of abuse I went through, my first memory was like. In sophomore year of highschool. Meeting someone in a new school I was attending. And recently in finding myself forgetting alot of things. Is this common?

yeah I noticed it especially when i visited my family and talked to my mom again, many things that happened in recent years that i just don't recall at all. feels really odd to be told about things i should recall but don't.

My memory is TERRIBLE, especially short term. Shiiit, I don't even remember last week. It's that bad. Having ptsd, depression, anxiety, and trauma worsens the memory. I also can't retain information and I rely on others for help, so it's very hard for me to be a normal functioning adult. How the hell am I supposed to survive out here? I can recall some of my childhood memories, but I remember most of the times when I felt immense pain and sadness. It's just not a quality life

My short term memory is a mess.
My long term memory is painfully good.
There's a lot of things i have a hard time to remember due to trauma but i suppose that's normal.

I have long periods of depression and during those i'm disconnected from reality but i suppose thats normal.

My short term memory is pretty bad. Long-term is great.

Lots of folks here are bringing up difficulties remembering childhood memories outside of abuse and that does apply to me. I can't think of any memories from when I was a kid that don't involve bullying or my parents abusing me.

My memory has always been garbage, a side effect of Bipolar 2. My SO was always my memory, but now they're gone. Plus, I'm off my meds now so my memory is worse.

Memory loss is a long-observed symptom of depression. Stress and anxiety has been shown to cause the hippocampus to shrink, and it is the part of the brain believed to be responsible for forming memories.

A related theory I see is the minds of those who suffer from Major Depressive Disorders effectively 'train' themselves to focus on the negative beyond our natural propensity to quickly form strong memories of negative experiences. The mind makes 'neural pathways' and they get stronger the more they are used, this is how memories are formed.

It's theorised that having more negative experiences makes recalling them require less effort to recall, at the expense of the formation of other memories—it takes up more space and creates 'traffic'.

Damn I got 18 and thought it was a lot. The doctors lie . They said memory loss was most likely temporary

I was very uninformed on top of them lying. I'm sorry you had to experience that too :( it's been 2 years since my last treatment and it hasn't improved.
