im considering some final options before ctb so i can say i tried and wondering what your guys' opinions/experience with residential/long term care facilities for mental health? im not talking for acute emergencies like psych ward, i'm trying to find rehabilitative care to maybe help me re integrate into society and try before i die. but i dont know if such places truly exist or if its true-- the hospitals just make you more sick. ive only ever gone to acute facilities for maximum 2 weeks

Kinda but I wasn't in one for a while. When I was still with my parents I was forced to go to an eval and then on to a ward a bit later. I don't know what I did, why this happened, but even being in the proper ward where I was generally told I would be there for at least a week or two, I got out within a day?

I'm guessing my parents threatened legal action as they didn't expect anything more than an eval? Idk.

Pro tip: don't fucking tell a therapist anything.

This was also a few years ago and the ward was wayyyyy over crowded, and my "case" may of been seen as more "minor" (????). I'm not sure.

It did fucking suck in there, but I did get cake. The cake wasn't a lie I guess? At least not there.

yeah ive been involuntary sectioned 5 times the longest 2 weeks but im talking about residential sorta so like you live in there for a longer time

in the usa atleast theres more acute psych wards for emergencies usually connected to bigger normal hospital and then theres residential treatment where you live in the facility for anywhere from weeks to months. i was thinking residential but i cant edit title now oops

Yes, but only as a teen in a state with tons of resources for mental health. I was there for almost three years! The place helped me and I benefited from consistent therapy + groups, alongside support from skill trainers and some peers. I developed some really meaningful relationships with the staff there, and I experienced both love and support in a way I never received growing up. I'm both Facebook friends with, and keep in touch with some of the staff from the facility to this day. However being in the treatment setting for so long also hurt me in a way, as being isolated from the community and living with a bunch of sick + struggling people, was challenging and sometimes traumatizing. It's a double edged sword, but I definitely wouldn't have made it this far without treatment in my teens.

I would absolutely look into residential facilities near you that are less acute! If you're feeling like giving things one more shot before you CTB, you really should. Residential places typically offer way more freedoms and don't strip away both your autonomy and dignity like acute psych wards do.
