To anyone who is considering taking mood stabilizers/antipsychotics: be very careful. Latuda came with a plethora of side effects. I now have something called tardive dyskenisia which makes me grimace involuntarily. I also have akathisia, a disorder which causes restlessness and makes me pace and rock back and forth all day and night. Both are common side effects of antipsychotics and persist long after the discontinuation of the offending drug. Sometimes these conditions are permanent; there is no cure for them. My memory is also shot. I forget what I'm saying mid-sentence and have a hard time retaining anything. If you must take antidepressants, take the lowest possible dose.

Totally can confirm this. Luckily, I was not on any medication long enough to cause any long term problems. I'm so sorry that this happened to you. I think it's disgusting how these drugs are handled out so carelessly, with no consideration of the serious and permanent side effects, and often, no real help alongside.

I was worried about that with Quetiapine. I take it occasionally for insomnia off label. I'm sorry this happened to you.

Yup, can confirm this. Risperidone gave me something called extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) which include akathisia, dystonia (eye spasm), parkinsonism (tremors, slow movement, excessive saliva), and tardive dyskinesia. It was hell. What makes it worse is that I didn't even realize that those are side effects of the drugs I'm taking, so i just continue living with it like an idiot. I was a zombie basically. I couldn't walk straight, couldn't hold a spoon without trembling, couldn't speak without stuttering. I'm surprised I survived without anybody noticing it.

They took me off risperidone immediately and gave me something to help with the EPS but I forgot the name (it's usually used to treat Parkinson's disease). Did they give you anything to cope with symptoms?

I'm really sorry you're going through all that!

I'm taking lamotrigine and at first I had lots of itching but now I don't feel it anymore and it seems those pills are really helping me with my bipolar disorder type I! (I'm also taking bupropion and quetiapine)

Hope you can feel better soon!!!

Hugs and love,

Matt
