I'm so ready to go but the thing that bugs me is leaving my dog behind. She loves me so much and never leaves my side. When I go she will be so confused and there's no way to make her understand. The people in my life will get an explanation etc but my dog will just feel abandoned and that breaks my heart. Does anyone else relate to this?

I feel the same with my birds. I like to believe they will be fine so long as they are rehomed with a loving owner. They might never forget us, but they will not understand what we did. They will live on, and be happy. But it's important you make the necessary preparations for them before you leave.

I also don't feel like living, but if I had any pets of my own I'd want to stay for them and help look after to them until they were gone too. Sadly my flats don't allow pets so I don't have any. :|

Yes. My cat, she's getting older and I don't want her to feel abandoned and miss me. I feel so bad even thinking about suicide when she's around. I just wish I could explain it to her so that she'd understand and not be sad, but animals are very intuitive and she would sense something is wrong and probably act very strange ):
I just love her so much.
Bless you, it's so tough. My dog will be well cared for by family but I am her person. She's with me day and night, the only one who's stuck by me no matter what. Yeah :( Like Shadowlord900 says, I want to look after my pets till they're gone too - the idea of leaving them and how they might feel or react breaks my heart.

Same here. But I'm finding life such a struggle and my dog could have a lot of years left to live. I don't want to leave her but I can't even imagine staying around for all that time. I guess I hope she will love someone else as much as she loves me one day. Still - heartbreaking

I understand. I think no matter what happens, your dog will know you loved her and will continue to love you, no matter where you are. Have you heard the tale of Hachikō? He was a dog whose owner passed away, but he continued to wait for him for nine years following his death. I don't believe he ever felt abandoned. Even though I currently don't have any pets, I can definitely understand how you feel. It's so hard knowing that something that loves you so much but doesn't know things the way we do will never be able to understand why you're gone.
That's admittedly the reason why I've been so heditantt to adopt or foster.

They say animals understand death if they see a dead body. I don't know if you want to make that possible for your dog to experience. They'd just learn to move on. But maybe it's a sign you should stay :) try and take the opportunity to recover? Make the most of the time with your dog, at least? Only you can be the judge, of course

An Indian ringneck and a budgie. Any bird owner would squirm to hear, but they have been living in the same cage for the past three years. They love each other very much... I'll miss them.

Same. Humans get over it, but a dog may never know why you disappeared.
I mentally see animals as more pure than humans. They do just what they were taught or do something to survive. They are creatures of pureness and having to leave them behind or taint their pureness feels awful.
Yeah, it's probably best not to if you are unsure if you'll be staying around to care for them. They are such a comfort but leaving them behind is so tough

Absolutely. It's so so sad. I know they are very intuitive but I don't think they'd understand this. I wish there was a way I could make my dog understand. I thought maybe if I ctb when I'm by her side she'll be with me and she'll know. I dunno. She'll definitely be loved and taken care of after me, I just feel huge guilt

I did think about ctb with using SN with my dog by my side. Over night so in the morning I'd be found and my dog won't be left alone too long. Yes. When my dog died, broke my heart. But i can't get another because it would be wrong of me, when i have thoughts of CTB daily, so i cannot give them a forever home. I have 2 cats but they will be happy wherever they are warm and fed. Dogs bond deeply.

I cannot leave them behind. Either we leave together or we stay together. I can't imagine them being sick and not getting any care and medical attention.
Yeah it's really tough. I don't know what your animals are but I'd hope if you do decide to go you could rehome them with someone kind who will love them as much as you do :)

Animals are just as bad as ppl tho. Their dog doesn't "love" them
. The dog just sees them as a source that provides food. Animals are overrated.
100%, I'm still actively making plans but omg I can't leave them I feel, but my suffering is unbearable. Sadly I don't have people in my life to take them:(Me too. My dogs are all I care about anymore. People lack empathy (apart from SaSu users who are also very empathic) but dogs are another level

yes, i've thought about giving them away before i ctb but i think what if i don't succeed and then i'm left alone? (selfish i know but i can't help it)
is this the way to do it? I'm in a hotel where u can definitely be left alone, I sleep with my dogs, SN and having them lay next to me would be what I want as well, but is this selfish? If he knew I was gone it would be comforting somewhat compared to just disappearing? Would people think then my dog was bad luck? I really can't stand the thought of giving then away, but I do think I'd be found within a day, as they would prob bark and howl in the morning. It would be for my comfort but I'd like to think it would help them move on? This is so hard, I guess pets are harder because they rely on you, vs humans. What do you think? My worry then is that it has to work, the fallout for me would be getting kicked out and mental hospital for a long time. It just sucks so bad but ctb is my only option I feel atm.
