We are not to decide who should and shouldn't live. Just because I am depressed and have my problems and issues, it doesn't mean the world should suffer. Its a beautiful planet, its amazing, there are some truly lovely and wonderful people walking this earth, I wouldn't want them to die becuase I was bitter and resentful at whats happened to me. Sure, I feel jealous when I see other people happy and enjoying life, but I'm also happy for them, they haven't got to deal with the shit I have, and that's a good thing.

Not sure if I want a virus to wipe us all out but an extinction level event seems weirdly beautiful like an asteroid flying towards Earth. Everyone saying their goodbyes to eachother and none of us have a choice or control. Not that i'd want it to happen I'd prefer to go by myself alone and peacefully. Climate change will probably wipe out everyone anyway albeit very slowly.

Heard it all the time from "normal" people IRL
I don't understand what the fuss is about ..

People don't truly wish for doom to all , just let out their despair and hate. So I won't take OP literally. But if OP can really imagine people, one after one, trillions, innocent children getting sick and die, that's a problem .... And we can discuss it :)

I did not like some feedback here -- OP's desire being labeled etc -- I understand this vision of suffering is horrific and emotions running high. Opinions are fine. But it could be beneficial to engage and talk rather than judge

Everyone is a bad person to some extent. Besides humanity is gonna be wiped out by something worse one day, I can feel it. We should all count ourselves lucky we were born in a millennium where that might not happen. Future descendants have to worry about that and I doubt anyone cares enough about that.

You shouldn't be shamed for having evil thoughts when everyone has evil thoughts at times. The fact that you're being judged so harshly is disappointing.

Honestly some people might have worse deaths than the virus and some might not.

There's been enough piling on here, it was a good question, but if the world's going to die, it shouldn't be by a coronavirus. It should be by Godzilla attack.

"Everyone"??? Including people who dont want to die? Why would you think like that?

You should not even wish that for suicidal people either... not everyone who is suicidal would like to die from viral infection. It's a messy death and messy thinking.
The death of humanity would be a good thing. There would be no more suffering. And plus everyone has self preservation programmed in their bodies, thus you think people don't want to die. Everyone dies either way. It's just a matter of time. Life is just a time ticking time bomb.

I want this virus to kill everyone too. If humanity went extinct there would be no more suffering anymore and that's good. People complain about it being a cruel wish. But what about people who cruelly sentence a baby to this hell of world. When it's gonna end? Who says they have this right?

I see your opinion but parents decide all the time for another person when they impose life. And many people knowingly transmit their crappy genes to their kids, then the poor kids are sentenced to a crappy life of suffering they didn't ask for, but nobody questions that. If everyone died there would be no more imposition of suffering. As much as this planet is beautiful, it has an horrible side too. Just because some enjoy a happy walk in the park doesn't mean others have to keep being forced to endure torture, agony and so many other horrors.

Life itself is doom. It's better to not exist at all.

People should think with their brain. Not from their self preservation instincts :)

I've read the theory that plagues keep a species in check so that they don't overwhelm the available resources. I wonder how much medicine has contributed to the population explosion, along with Catholicism condemning birth control. And plagues are no respecters of position or wealth, so I like them a little bit. :)

OP, I've chuckled every time I see the post title.

From a rational perspective, man prepares the end of this planet and himself. We don't care about the alternative cost of our marginal tastes. If we are killing insects in our house in order to protect our comfort, if we continue to use oil and plastic regardless of species extinction and damage to other animals, why wouldn't someone destroy us for the same reason? The only thing that makes us privileged to be tried and punished with the same provision is that we are stronger than other creatures. We don't just harm other creatures. This modern life we build is carried on the backs of salaried slaves. We are the most toxic species of this world from a rational perspective. We're completely out of control. Our number is huge. I can't kill anyone, but contraception would be a good solution. Countries will never do this in order not to lose labor and continue their stupid races. So it shouldn't be morally wrong for someone to stop us in any way.

How about giving all humans a virus which makes them unable to have children.
I agree since we are not in a society yet to get maid without discrimination, and it is available everywhere. I would disagree if we all lived in a society like that. You can't even choose to be born which really sucks. You are forced to be born because of your parents.

A moderate version of this would be really nice. Like a virus that makes conception more difficult, for example one rendering sperm slightly less viable (not lowering it universally, just making viability higher than a certain level not possible). Healthy enough for conception to be possible, but to have to make light efforts (insistence, timing) for it to happen.

I'd still need a time machine and the means of giving this to my parents lol

if there's even 1 innocent person, even 1 good / caring person... i think it's unfair...

but simultaneously i understand you probably just wish all of this humanity was just gone to feel it would finally be over...

you are not bad, maybe just frustrated and exhausted?

The fact that you were concerned about it or aware that it might be, suggests that ultimately you're not a bad person deep down,
because if you were, it wouldn't even be a hesitation or a thought for you...
Had the same experience in 2014/15. Wasn't near death, but it certainly harmed my eyesight and for some reason my face keeps heating up around the eyes and nose ever since. Got used to it, and it's a little better now. Dunno about you or the others, but a lot of us probably lead reclusive lifestyles and vitamin D supplements can be really helpful in this regard.

Part of the problem is it viruses are literally in a strange state between life and non-life, at least according to previous science professor.

Viruses can stay in both animals and humans for life, hiding usually inside nerves, or nerve endings, and they can become very dangerous if someone's immune system gets weak...

I had the flu about 4 years ago. I didn't have a flu shot. I grew up in a family that did not do flu shots, but I certainly do them now. I am not going to bother Getting into whether they are worth doing or not because it is a heated discussion for people. Regardless I became sicker than I have ever been in my life. I had every symptom there could be of the flu virus in full force. I almost died of respiratory failure several times. I can tell you becoming very ill or near death from a viral illness or even worse a bacterial illness is a very uncomfortable way to go.

I can understand not wanting to live or even envying the dead or dying, but if one really wants to CTB there are so many better ways.
Why are people wilfully misinterpreting the OP? I don't think they want that to happen to end suffering, rather, to reduce the population and make Earth a place worth living for everyone lucky enough to be blessed with the gift of life.

Humans are the only species to be the cause of extinction to many animals and plants through urbanization and are arguably wrecking the atmosphere and planet due to climate change. We have the characteristics of a parasite and cancer, reproducing uncontrollably while harming the host. Indisputably the earth would be better off without us.

Even so I don't wish to see others die and suffer so I can't honestly say I hope we get wiped out.
The earth will be effectively destroyed when the sun runs out of fuel. The universe itself is expanding, stars will stop forming, heat death and maximum entropy will occur and nothing of complexity will exist. It will just be freezing nothingness.
