  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

That would be interesting data to have. There are people with thousands of posts here, which sometimes feels weird. Watch it be me in a few years.

There are tons of lurkers too. The data would be largely skewed. I'm sure many people ended it while lurking too.

I use this site as an emotional cushion. It calms me. I know that even though I want to ctb, coming and reading these posts and having intelligent information and facts helps me feel more in control. More able to make life decisions. I don't feel that "pull" after being on here. I joined 5 years ago. It has actually saved my life so far.

A surprising number of posts I've seen seem to suggest that a fair number find consolation and comfort to struggle on after finding a place where they can speak freely without criticism or condemnation. In fact, pro life enthusiasts should realise that this being a pro choice rather than pro suicide group can offer more support and encouragement to the undecided than many of us have found from so called "health professionals".

I don't think there's an estimated time, I've seen active users with accounts that are a few years old. And some new users who have "left" in a few months.

Hard to tell. The earliest I've seen is 3 weeks after joining. Like me a lot of people joined post covid. They're usually here to find a way to get SN. Their minds have already been made up to ctb when they create their account. I honestly envy their conviction and single mindedness. My stupid SI and commitments keep making a coward out of me

If those data were available I wish I could use them as a self fulfilling prophecy. You only have to be on this site for some time and than you are able to kill yourself.

I imagine the percentage of people who do actually go ahead with suicide might be fewer than you would expect. So- that would increase the average massively.

Even if you only count the people that go ahead with it, we all join with slightly different backgrounds. Some of us are waiting on our loved ones to die first so- we could be here for years.

Also, sometimes learning about the fallability of just about all methods can be enough to scare people off attempting. I get the impression a lot of members are held back by fear.

I suspect the loger- term members would balance out against the shorter- term ones to make the average fairly high though.

I'm 99% sure my best mate never posted but he still mentioned the site to his mother before he ctb. That would be very common I think. Lurkers looking for methods, members who never post, or only post a couple of times for details on methods, etc. Not interested in the community side, just getting it done. That group would ctb at a high rate quickly after joining, if they join at all. Then there are most chatters, who are interested in both methods and the community side, that tend to last longer and sometimes even recover and stay for the community. That's most of who we encounter here and I think they're average time to ctb would be high partly because a lot wouldn't ctb at all.
