CTB=catch the bus

Couldn't CTB also mean "cease to breathe"? Or is this not as common?

Also your profile bio under your name says "Available as witness for VAD". What does VAD mean?

TIA
(thanks in advance)

i've read thousands of threads here, but to me "catching the bus" was overwhelmingly obvious

when i started reading these posts i had no clue of the acronyms here, but CTB was one of the first to infer; i don't really see any positive or negative connotations, just a kind consideration when referring to 'voluntary euthanasia'. i don't really have anything against the term 'suicide' either, but i don't like negative connotations and stigma associated with it in today's society

in the reference posts i included initially, i also found 'close the book' (from 2018), 'cease to breathe' (like you mentioned), 'cross the bridge', 'cross the bar', 'cease to be', etc, but they may have been inconsistencies in interpretation in the beginning, after becoming the successor to the banned subredditr/SanctionedSuicide in Reddit. i thing that 99% of older users are currently thinking of 'catching the bus' ("buying my ticket", "i have the ticket", "waiting at the station", "i'll catch the next bus")

(note to self: we have a new wikipedia article for "Sanctioned Suicide" - sanctioned-suicide.net)

Also your profile bio under your name says "Available as witness for VAD". What does VAD mean?
i'm a complete idiot, lol :pfff::pfff::pfff:

i'm asking users to 'don't use acronyms, please' and here i am using an acronym :)
my excuse: i'm very used to various forms of 'voluntary euthanasia' in the news; also i'm a minimalist: i pay attention to design and layout - the description under my name would be too long - i like to make excuses :)

so to rectify my mistake, here are terms i found in media:

VADvoluntary assisted dying (mostly used in europe)
MAIDmedical assistance in dying (mostly used in america - canada and us)
PASphysician assisted suicide (found it mostly in us)
PADphysician aid in dying (mostly us, and maybe australia)

i think MAID has good chances of catching on because it's an umbrella term which refers to both voluntary euthanasia (self administered pills) and to physician assisted dying (assisted by doctor) and does not distinguish one from the other, reducing the confusion, but 'voluntary euthanasia' is probably clearer and neutral

another thing you could add to the list would be that DM = Direct Message, and it's the same thing as a PM. maybe also IC/CCS could be there as "SN source"? ....then again that's not explaining the acronym, lol.

good list! i use a lot of acronyms myself without thinking about it .x.

i'm glad it helped!

the search can be confusing for new users: it will not be available for the first day after registering, so you need to wait 24 hours, and you'll also need about 10 posts - posts count as you make a new thread, or even as a simple post on someone else's thread

sometimes the search is not functioning for a few hours or even days (if there is a problem accessing the underlying database)

if you have temporary problems, you can also use google: type this in the google box:

site:sanctioned-suicide.net Continuous Flow Supplied Air Respirator
site:sanctioned-suicide.net Non-rebreather mask

advanced google search: https://www.google.com/advanced_search
typing "Continuous Flow" (exact phrase) is different than Continuous Flow (adjacent words)

another thing you could add to the list would be that DM = Direct Message, and it's the same thing as a PM. maybe also IC/CCS could be there as "SN source"?
excellent suggestions!

DM = Direct Message
PM = Private Message

IC/CCS = other SN source

i find source names extremely confusing:
for new users: source names are not allowed on this forum, so we have to resort to shortening the names
if you need to use SN (sodium nitrite - this is the most used method here) at least don't refer to sources as A, B, D, IC, CCS, etc, and simply call them source; i'm not even sure we should have a list of sources because the can change frequently

Also known as IHAILT. (i hate acronyms, i love tables)
lol: IHAILT - very much ! :haha:

i find source names extremely confusing:
Oh yeah, they didn't make any sense to me!

And the first acronym I came across being used too often was CTB, and while I was able to infer it correctly soon enough, initially I had some really stupid guesses lol
Though come to think of it, shouldn't it be GOTB - "Get Off This Bus"?

Thanks! I know a lot of people say "ctb" as in catch the bus, but I like to think of it as cease to breathe. It just resonates with me more. But thanks for compiling it. What does "NSFW" mean when picking a prefix for a forum thread? Not safe for words??

PPeH = Peaceful Pill eHandbook

it's a (pdf) book written by Philip Nitscjke and Fiona Stewart, that details different methods for peaceful suicide

you can download the latest version from this site, from the sticky at the top of this page - Suicide Discussion: PPH Essentials 2022

this is from 2022 (next year there will be a newer version)
https://cdn8.bunkr.ru/162454_162400...cjke_and_Fiona_Stewart_z-lib.org-9ECfmInr.pdf
Isn't there a new version of the Essentials every month now?

Afaik The Essentials replaced the PPeH and the PPeH isn't being updated any longer.

Exit International seems very commercial to me going by its website.

Thanks ksp. Still not sure how everything works here but I hope you can see this. Your acronym table real helpful. I haven't figured out how to start a thread yet. But I am wondering why so much discussion about sodium nitrite and some say painless. Some say not so much. Why don't I see anything about fentanyl? Definitely painless and likely to be effective. Especially for people who have no tolerance to narcotics.

Difficult to acquire, illegal, could be cut with trash if you're not at the source ... but yeah peaceful like other opioids/anesthetics if one can get hands on them, which is the biggest obstacle imo.

I haven't figured out how to start a thread yet.
Enter the thread title there and the rest pops up and is self explanatory.

Thread how to start

Afaik it's an acronym for a SN source, but I'm not 100% sure rn. You'll get used to all the abbreviations when you spend some time here. :-)

I believe nothing. I think someone was meaning to write CTB and misspelled the acronym as STB. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

In "electronics" talk STB means set top box, like cable boxes, dvd players, etc, - any electronic gizmo you can set on top of your entertainment system or cabinet.
