I'm sure I read somewhere that only a small number of people who try suicide succeed, many more end up in hospital. And besides those who end up in hospital (the known attempts) there are many more who fail and never seek medical help, and are unknown.

I'm sure i read it's less than 1 in 100 are successful.

So if 1 in 6900 commit suicide, and say it's one out of 100 who are successful then that's really bad because a lot of people are suicidal.

Take out the young who are not even thinking about these things, and the old (they wouldn't have made it that far if they were suicidal) and it could be something like (in terms of suicidal ideation):

6900/100 = 69

If old and young = 50% of population: 69/2 = 35

1 in 35 people are suicidal? Could that be right?

Crikey the way things are going it could get messy.
