In your opinion, what is the worst incurable illness (and please explain your reasoning)?

For me personally, it has to be the 2 variants of the Herpes Simplex Virus. Both are quite common, HSV2 (the lesser common of the 2) still affects 1 in 6 people. Most people are asymptomatic and never experience symptoms, so they never feel the need to get tested, and if sexually active, pass it on to their partners unknowingly. Antivirals only help to more-rapidly heal outbreaks or reduce the frequency of occurrence. Any skin to skin contact can infect your partner, even absent an outbreak. Viral shedding means you can still infect someone or spread it when you think you are fine. Condoms do not fully prevent transmission. Ocular herpes can ultimately lead to blindness.

A cure needs to be developed, because this shit is hell, but science "supposedly" doesn't understand it enough... ugh!

Certain celebrities are rumored to have it- I think it was Derek Jeter who gave it to Jessica Alba- and they are still living full lives- maybe they take some medication for it, not sure. I think there are a lot more disabling conditions, but definietly does sound like a problem. Someone I worked with I overheard talking about it once and he seemed healthy most of the time, but I think he got sick from it once in a while. Because it is so common people must be trying to gvet a cure, but it's been around so long it can't be easy to get one. I hope they can find one soon. Researchiing on youtube there are some treatments that can help. I hope some treatments can help to some extent. Some people do have a much worse time with it than others.

It is without question far more disabling conditions exist. I just helped a blind man onto the sidewalk yesterday, as he was with his seeing eye dog and really struggling... everyone was just looking on and I ran over to extend my arm to help him.

Some people are strong enough to adapt to life's curve balls, I am certainly not one of them. I have allowed my ailments to pummel me to oblivion, but am far too cowardly to end my life. At least if my condition was terminal, there would be relief in knowing someday it would end, preferably painless and whilst asleep.

Worst incurable illness? You're kidding right??(aside from Ocular Herpes)---Try ALS, that's a real nightmare, death in slow motion, like torture--Or try Pulmonary Fibrosis, where your lungs are slowly destroyed(what my father died of)and you're gasping for breath like Emphysema--or AIDS back in the 80's and early 90's,a freaking nightmare, where you look like a dying concentration camp inmate

Your skin burns and sores form, it is a very expensive treatment, you spend all day with creams and bandages on your skin, you need to go to the doctor every day to heal your wounds, you have to wear special clothes, etc. For me, it is the worst existing disease

I agree, I think a condition that kills you is preferable to one that forces you to kill yourself.

I think for me the worst ones are illnesses that would make it really difficult for someone to ctb as assisted suicide isn't even legal in a lot of countries. What sounds so terrifying in particular to me is permanent blindness. There are so many awful health conditions that exist and anybody could end up in the worst pain possible which is why I see non existence as always being preferable to living.

do you have it too ? I have HSE......it is going to lead to blindness.....
