Nearly two thirds of British teenagers will suffer from a mental health condition or behavioural disorder by 2030.

A report by Zurich Insurance found that having a mental health problem had already become the norm for young people aged between 15 and 19. Its estimates suggest that 51pc of people in this age bracket have a mental or behavioural disorder such as anxiety, depression or ADHD.

Politicians on both the Left and Right – including Wes Streeting, the Health Secretary, and Kemi Badenoch, the Tory leader – have warned of an "overdiagnosis" of mental health conditions.

Ah yes "overdiagnosis". Definitely not the fact that the world is going to shit or these kids spending more time on social media then they do talking to another real human.

It's honestly not surprising to me, because in the UK there's not very many outlets for teenagers to socialise, and it is easy to become isolated, withdrawn, then go completely off the deep end mentally if you're spending all your time at home.

I have lived in multiple UK cities that are not London, and if you looked online for events or things to join in on locally, there was pretty much nothing except dating, nightclubs, and "career networking" events. High streets and shops boarding up left and right, barely anything open past 5 pm that's not a drinking establishment or vape shop.

There's genuinely nowhere for young people to hang out outside of school/work, and nothing to do except stay cooped up in your house all the time, unless you're into going to the gym. Compare this to SEA countries where you see young people out in the evenings at cafes, arcades, malls, etc, with their friends, and it's like night and day.

Granted, it's a bit older age bracket than teenagers mind you, but I know lots of people who ended up developing mental health issues after graduating university in the UK, because it was like losing their entire sense of community and social connections overnight. There's genuinely very few opportunities for young adults and teenagers alike to form social bonds in the real world anymore, and this is really devastating during our formative years.

On top of this, the mental health system in the UK is the most garbage setup I have ever witnessed in a developed country. They try to put everyone on quick, easy short term CBT therapy programs, or SSRIs, then do nothing else. I have known many people with ADHD, bipolar, and other conditions who can't get any help at all on the NHS and have to go private to receive treatment. Then people will go around and claim issues are being over diagnosed, when the NHS quite frankly is bad at diagnosing any complex condition and desperately needs reform.

So many young people hurting and they "forced" so many people to commit suicide in UK by much more violent means with their very strict ban of SN. It's a shame what happens in UK, I geniunly feel bad for depressed people living in UK.

We already have a terrible problem with social isolation among older generations.
The amount of hidden suffering in this country is just immense, I strongly sense this.
It's really a cruel country. I'm 58 and it's changed so much for the worse. If that's what the public want, a country where "society" "doesn't exist" (as we've been told by politicians since the mid 1970s) then those who don't wish to participate shouldn't have to choose a violent method of exit that may fail.
Instead of rotting in agony.

living here, im really not suprised. theres a reason the UK always gets ranked high in surveys about the most miserable countries. the people here are awful, the mental health system is awful (CAMHS especially which is very telling since thats the system for children) the government is awful and most of the other options are also awful, the weather is awful, the laws they pass are awful. even the trees and nature itself reflects how dull this place is. bullying in secondary schools is a massive problem that is never dealt with and teachers put far too much pressure on students, ofcourse their mental health is terrible. calling it an "overdiagnosis" proves how little the government even cares, NOT AT ALL SUPRISED that the man calling mental health diagnosis "overdiagnosed" is the same one who banned puberty blockers for children with gender dysphoria specifically, not their cisgender peers. ever think about how obsessed the UK and ofcom is with SaSu and it "being a demon cult for grooming teenagers" in their words? they never stop to think for a second about why so many teenagers would pose as older and come on here to kill themselves šŸ¤” I literally could not name you a single good thing about this country. fish and chips maybe, thats about it šŸ˜‚
