Thinking of using a zip/cable tie around my neck. I have seen a few cases of it. I'm just wondering if it will work, and if my instincts kick in, would I be unable to remove it.

I have had the same thoughts and wondered the same thing. I also don't know if just tightening them would do the trick or if pressure needs to be applied as well. I was interested in partial hanging as well but I can't even figure out how to make the knots. I am beyond frustrated and just want to CTB. You aren't alone in this struggle.
