Anyone ever been told this?

Apart from the other platitudes that my parents spew out, this is one I always hear in some form of another. They think that If I get busy I won't "have time for these thoughts". They seem to forget that I was enrolled in school and had homicidal/suicidal thoughts constantly that forced me to leave.

Yes, by my mother when I was a teenager. It killed me. Unfortunately, only figuratively.

I can't even begin to grasp the logic behind that sentence. Probably because... there is zero logic behind it. You are suicidal? Well, that can only mean you are lazy! I mean, what even?

I've never been told that at least, but it doesn't make any sense.

For me at least, part of the reason (not all) I want to ctb is because I am lazy and don't really want to work hard in school and then bust my ass at work for decades on end. It seems pointless to me and like too much work. But that's just for me. Many people who ctb weren't lazy, a surprising amount were hard workers.

The only thing my family said is that "I need help". Which is quite insulting. I don't like what they like therefore I'm "sick". Others said I will go to hell, said if killed myself it would be the most "selfish and cowardly" thing I ever done. People who said these didn't hurt my feelings....they just pissed me off with their god damn ignorance.

It's the other way around. Depression makes even the simplest tasks near impossible and daily life excruciating. Everything is overwhelming. Nightmarish situation to be trapped in and people cannot understand unless they've experienced it themselves.

Get help is such a vague idea. I've tried "getting help" and it's just a general idea of stay alive/tolerate this by any means.

When I hear "you need help" what I am really hearing is "you need help to become a life lover like me. You are not allowed to dislike your imposition".

"Friends" I knew throughout my life. Same ones who tried to hang "Hell" over my head. If someone's gonna tell me that CTB is selfish, then I can turn the argument right around on them and say the kids they had when they wasn't ready to be parents was "selfish".

I've been told that I have suicidal thoughts because I'm not keeping myself occupied. So, because I'm bored, I want to kill myself?

a lot of people who dont smoke get lung cancer.

smoking doesnt cause lung cancer?????

nope

and even though its an unpopular opinion here i will say it: doing nothing can ofc contribute to depression (which doesnt mean an active person cant get depression aswell!!!)

do you seriously think an hikimori lifestyle isnt harmful for your mental health?

how do you think will feel better at of the end of the day? the person who accomplished sth or the person who spend his/her day watching anime?

the question whether doing nothing can contribute to depression

if i get you right you are saying that you currently unhappy because you do too much..but how does this disapprove my point?

in general the brain must been kept busy..which kind of stuff you do to keep your brain busy is another question

Telling a depressed/suicidal person to "get help" is so dismissive of the situation. Basically invalidating the severity and complexity of the matter like it's so simple to fix.

I'm the exact same way when I worked for a big company as one of the higher ups bossing people around once I got home I had zero will to live.
