Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

I'm struggling to stay in my IT job. It requires constant updation, something I'm finding harder and harder to do as I grow older. With AI things have become even more uncertain. The pay isn't terrible but it's been stagnant since covid and losing ground to inflation.

You must have seen articles about many hundreds being fired from top companies like IBM, Microsoft and so on, but what you don't hear about are the tens of thousands more who're forced to resign voluntarily or get shunted into virtually dead end roles with no real prospect of career growth. This is to ensure that these companies can still maintain the facade that they're doing everything they can to preserve employees by "upskilling". Upskilling doesn't guarantee that you'll be in that role anytime soon either. By the way this is mostly done at the employees' expense not the companies'. Even if they fund your training you're still forced to sign a contract that restricts your ability to search for jobs elsewhere. White collar slavery at its finest.

Yet somehow they still find it in their budget to give execs millions of dollars in bonuses for what's essentially shuffling paper.....

Trade schools in my country don't lead to reasonably well paying jobs as in the west so I'm more or less stuck here. If I'm ever fired, my decision to ctb will be cemented. It's the last barrier standing in my way now that I already have SN. Just sticking around to save up enough money so that my mom can have a somewhat better financial future. I can't fight the system I'm in.

AI is very powerful. It's not just tech jobs it will replace. You're probably in a much better financial place than most people. There's going to be a lot of people in the same boat as you. The whole world will be unrecognizable in a decade.

The singularity is near by 2030, by the end of 2030 the singularity

As amazing as AI is, it's made me nihilistic like nothing else. I feel like it's the last thing the world needs right now. Sorry to hear about your situation, too. I'm not in tech but I've noticed people from most fields feeling just as uneasy... I'm glad I'm not going to be around to see the fallout, but I'm sure it'll at least be interesting to watch
