Currently it is legal to possess so there shouldn't be an issue at the border. As for a wellness check, I can't say for certain if you'll have the police show up at your door, but I would definitely prepare for it. Remember that it's completely fine to possess, it is intended to be used as a food preservative (curing meats), and don't feel pressured to let the police inside your home if they don't have a warrant.
I'd be more concerned about your family members, friends, or roommates finding it in your house. This is, in my opinion, the more pressing issue and how most people get caught.
