We've created an artificial environment/system that humans haven't evolved to cope with. Modern society is like poison to the soul. Early hunter-gatherer societies had way more leisure time than we do now, we weren't meant to work these absurd hours.
Also, human brains are wired to be useful to their tribe. Now nobody is useful, everyone is expendable and replaceable, so that brain circuit isn't being exercised. Suicide is like apoptosis, the same way a cell kills itself because it isn't useful to the full organism, humans kill themselves because they're not useful to their tribe.
