Why do you have to use a slipknot to hang

I thought the hangman noose was used for it, but if not then what is it used for?? And what's the difference when you hang with the slipknot vs with the hangman

A knot that tightens easily itself when you apply your weight is ideal.

The Noose Knot is easy to make and requires less rope. The Hangmans Knot was used in Drop Hanging executions.

The hangman's knot is no more effective than a good slip knot. Why bother with it? As a matter of fact, a hangman's knot is going to have more resistance on the part of the rope that "slips" through the coils of rope wrapped around it. It really needs a "drop" to be effective, although lubrication could help.

A tightening ligature could be made with a slip knot. A better ligature can be created.
Hangsman's knot is intetesting, but basically useless. It was designed to break your neck in long drop executions.

The higher the number of coils the higher is the friction in the knot. If there is only one coil it is called slip knot. The friction depends also on the material of the rope and can be reduced with lubrication.
If the friction in the knot is high the constriction of the noose is reduced by some percent and this reduces the pressure to the neck a little, but there is by far enaugh pressure left to block the carotid arteries completly.
Iran uses the hangmans knot for short and no drop hangings and killed this way thousands of people. The UK uses for long drop hangings an eyelet instead of a noose.

You need a Noose Knot, not a Slip Knot. It's just a question of terminology, as the two can look identical, but it's an important distinction. If someone wants to create a noose and looks up how to tie a Slip Knot, it can lead to confusion, and they might end up tying the wrong knot! Here is a video that shows the difference:



About the question, as others have said, the Noose Knot slides more easily. A stopper knot should also be added when the Noose Knot is used as the Noose Knot can be unreliable in itself. Alternatively, the Poacher's Knot can be a good choice too. It slides well too, although not as easily as the Noose Knot. I wouldn't use the Hangman's Knot. There is too much friction, and the noose doesn't tighten well.
