Traditional media is full of them.
I can understand as chancellor of Germany you are in a difficult position. Trump can blackmail the EU over Ukraine. Personally, I am a Ukraine hawk. But I am certainly not supporting the war against Iran. The German green party loves war. I know it sounds weird. I read an interview where a green politician argues this intervention is for the Iranian people and we should talk less about international law. Due to the fact the Mullah regime broke human rights. I find these takes horrible. And news media is full of them. It is war propaganda.
Russia and China can both point their fingers at the US and Israel when attacking Ukraine and maybe Taiwan relentlessly. The US is repeating the mistakes from the Irqa war because the Trump administration became megalomaniac after the Venezuela coup. Moreover, it is a lab for newest military inventions, defense contractors make a fortune and the average citizen is paying for it. It will increase inflation. It looks like the war could take longer than expected. And the consequences will be quite devastating. The US is a falling empire and in rage over losing power they are attacking regimes more or less arbitrarily. For me a grand strategy isn't observable. Maybe distracting from the Epstein files, hoping for a rally around the flag effect. Trump once predicted Obama would attack Iran over sinking poll numbers. Furthermore, an esquetological factor might play a role. Many religious elites think that heaven on earth is only possible if israel reigned over the MIddle East. Another theory could be blackmail material. As in the Iraq case there are ridiculous claims about nuclear weapons. I wonder whether Americans really repeat the mistake to send ground forces once again. This mistake would be really massive. Either way this war will cost billions. Trump wants to show strength. He doesn't believe in soft power. His strong man politics backfires though if the empire crumbles over the expenses of such unnecessary wars. China will be happy about such foreign policy adventures. Trump is more honest compared to Bush when it comes to the lame excuse wanting to spread democracy all over the world. He is more transactional. But he is still lying to the American people about the real reasons for this war. They portray the need for an escalation inevitable which is ridiculous and many Americans are not buying that. Except the peole of the Trump cult. Maybe 1/3 of the country.
I am not sure though what the EU and Germany should do. We behave opportunisticly because we need time to enhance our military. I think though many resources get wasted and in the end we are not transformative enough. The real consequences of this war are yet to come. And they will be really nasty. It might destabilize the region, more refugees, higher energy prices, it could help Russian (not neccesarily though). A whole generation might be shaped over this military adventure. And the media is not really conveying the impact and magnitude of this war on the world. There are many useful idiots that argue in some ways this war was justified. But they are lying. The US and the EU are suppporting autocrats all over the world. Toppling them is more a consideration by the elites depending on opportunistic reasons. And then they claim people who insist on international law and principles were naive dreamers. While at the same time arguing that toppling the regime is justified when there are human rights violations. However, if we take this argumentation to its conclusion the US under Trump/Israel under Netanjahu had to be toppled too. How would the US/Israel react if Venezuela or Iran tried that in their country?
I fear Trump gets incentivized to break international law further if noone is stopping him. What do you think?
By the way AI considered this post to be really mediocre. I asked it. It shows the bias of AI chatbots to consider opinions represented in the NYT or Washington Post to be the ultimate truth...and well these outlets contain a lot of war-mongering propaganda.
