Discussion Who else didn't celebrate Thanksgiving today?

Family's too poor this year to buy food to cook anything (or buy food in general) and I just feel so sad and awful. No extended family so I couldnt even go to anyone's house and even if I did get an invite im so riddled with anxiety id say no anyway

Holidays make me so sad. I like them in theory but then when the actual day comes I get a rude awakening.

I don't have anyone... so it was never a thought to celebrate in my mind at all. Just sat here alone all day and ate what I would have eaten any other regular day.

Holidays don't exist anymore to me, been that way for almost 4 years now, ever since my girlfriend of 35 years died, she loved holidays, and she loved life, now I see holidays as a curse, just to make me even more miserable

I only live with one person and a two person Thanksgiving just depresses me. Plus we're both disabled and money's tight. We got some cheap Thanksgiving-y stuff, that's it.

Oh dear, good luck with that. I just realised, I'm missing out on Christmas too this year, thanks for reminding me! It's not celebrated here in SE Asia either

I don't know if anyone else in the world has an equivalent type of holiday to Thanksgiving... but it is purely an American invention. Based on a largely exaggerated/fabricated story about early American settlers sharing food with Native Americans... given the entire history of abuse before and after that "first Thanksgiving" to the natives here, the actual Thanksgiving holiday is one of the biggest shams we have going in the US... but I still like the idea of a family holiday where people get together to share a meal and conversation and appreciate what they have in each other. It's just that almost no one ever really celebrates the holiday in this way OR they give lip service to it and don't really mean it.

I don't understand why anybody would. Society has gone down the drain. The country is run by a fascist dictatorship regime. What is there to be thankful for? I guess it's just NPC Americans going through the motions. Stuffing themselves with processed garbage then going out to shop and fill their houses with more junk the day after. Just like the trained little consumerist culture mice that they are.

it's more because literally everyones off and it's a time to get together with family. everyone's usually too busy to share a meal together. it's great for families that have good relationships with each other.
