Velocity is king .
It is not entirely true velocity is king. A 5.56mm AP round leaving the barrel at a speed of 800m/s will pass through the skull and brain like butter, with almost no deformation and almost no loss of energy. The chances to survive, if the heart does not stop and the bullet does not tear apart a major cerebral artery, increase dramatically. The key factors are the type of ammunition used and the location of the shot, not the velocity. A 300-joule 9mm HP/FMJ Makarov is more than sufficient.

We're here. I have firearms and, frankly, I'm near the edge. Between work stress, financial stress, and the state of the world, I just want to give up. My wife being dependent on me is the only reason I'm still alive.

You americans are so lucky
Depends on which part of America you live. Certain states have super relaxed laws when it comes to buying firearms. Other states, like New York, are extremely difficult and time consuming. to get a handgun, You have to jump through a lot of hoops to get one and the process can stretch on for a long time. Im sure its still easier then purchasing a gun in certain countries but not always as easy as it sounds.

Yeah u don't want fmj bullets. U want hollow point or hunting bullets. Hp = hollow point

Velocity with a hollow point or expanding bullet is king

The higher velocity makes the bullet expand and deliver most of the energy within a few inches. the higher the velocity the sooner the bullet will expand.

This video shows the hollow point high velocity bullet does the most damage to the watermelon much more than a fmj same gun. And this is with a baby 9mm handgun from a distance. A point blank range contact shot or in the mouth would cause much damage

A 9mm handgun has about 362 foot pounds of energy. A 300 win mag rifle 3548 . Ft lbs are slightly more than joules

The way I see it a 300 win mag bullet hitting my skull at a velocity of almost 1 kilometer per second . What is going to happen to my skull? Gone

I understand how a spouse can keep you here, even if you don't want to be. I'm sorry.

May I ask what you're using? I'm looking at my options. I've never shot anything bigger than a .22 and I doubt that's enough. Planning on putting it in my mouth so I don't just blow my face off and live.
Ruger 9mm P89 DC. Ammo underwood 147 grain jhp, +P.

Gun I think they're too busy being dead from their trusty suicide method.

Seriously it's not fair how Americans can easily just go pew pew and be dead in a puddle of their own blood. One of the few things having basically no gun laws does right...I guess.

I've been a longstanding member on SaSu, been here since past mid-2018 even though I've taken a hiatus in early 2021 until mid 2022. My method of choice is still the firearm due to accessibility and availability compared to other means. If I had other means that are less messy and less brutal, I would have absolutely chosen them as a method, but with everything going on in 2025 (even in the last 1-2 years with SN being very difficult to acquire and all the crackdown on more relatively peaceful means of CTB'ing), I'm still sticking with the firearms as my go to.

I've had my means to check out since late 2018 until late 2021 due to life circumstances and other complications that made it less accessible for me, I won't get into all the details for obvious reasons and what not, but I will say that no, I did not suddenly become a prohibited person (I could technically go to a firearms dealer and legally purchase one and also live in a state that is relatively permissive when it comes to firearms ownership), but different circumstances and my living arrangement situation changed which made it harder to acquire firearms.

If and when I do, I'd like to do so secretively and with as little risk of failure or having my plans and attempt be foiled, hence I've just been biding my time for the last 4+ years until the time and circumstance is right to go and carry out my attempt. I've always had CTB on my mind, whether actively or not during most of my adult life, and even so the last few years I've always had it on the forefront of my life. Also, when it comes to laws and accessibility in other areas, I cannot speak for them in the last few years as I haven't really kept up with the current trends and such very much. This is why I'm generally really inactive on the firearms/guns megathread.
