I suspect it varies depending on the type / brand of charcoal you're using and the quantity you're burning. Sorry, I know that doesn't really answer your question. This is also my preferred method, but I don't know how much is enough charcoal.

You need at least 135 gramms of high quality lump charcoal per cubic meters of room air , no briquettes. I have a great guide that I have to translate into english.
