Long time lurker, first time posting...

The only thing keeping me on this earth is my dog. I am at a complete loss as to what to do with him. I have planned a polypharm overdose, and I don't want him in the house for that because it could be days before I am discovered. Do I surrender him? Ask some friends that I know will find him a good home to babysit him for the weekend? I don't want to surrender him to a shelter, but I also don't want to burden anyone with responsibility for him that they may not want...

I'm looking for any advice for giving him the best life he can have. I feel like I have failed him. He has quite literally been the only reason I have stuck around since my last attempt. I am in Victoria, Australia, if that helps. I don't know what they do with pets when you die...

I have the same dilemma, twice over. Two great, friendly dogs, both rescues.
A local branch of a national rehoming charity have assessed them and agreed to take them, but I just cannot take that final step. I would dearly love them to be rehomed together as they are so well bonded, but the charity cannot guarantee that. An acquaintance whom I trust has offered to take them, "if anything happens to me" and that seems to be a good solution, but having lost everything else in life I know that giving up my two pals will be the final straw.
This won't help you, but at least you know there are others in the same boat.

I've recently been through the same thing. Fortunately, my ex, who I bought her for originally, is now taking care of her. A friend or family member who you know will take good care of him is obviously the best option. Alternative, maybe advertise?

I really hope you find him a good home.

@Rocksandsand, asking your friends to babysit him and leaving a will asking them to find a good home for him seems a good route. (A will doesn't have to be fancy - a signed and dated message on paper is enough. You can find forms on line for the phrasing.)

Hugs to you and to @Roger for thinking of your dogs' well-being.

I would say surrender him, it's going to be very fucking hard for you but when the time comes at least you are going to have a little bit of closure about giving him up so he can find a new home and loving family, it would totally kill him inside if he found out what you did

I have two guinea pigs, they will be with my mom. Don't you have someone of the family to keep him ?

I am in the exact same position. I have two cats, they are like my own biological children to me. I don't want them to ever know I've died or see me dead. But I just can't leave them at the mercy of this world. I am trapped
