It's probably not for everyone, but damned if it wasn't the best thing I ever did for myself in my life. Like, it's a go-to thought that brings me a lot of joy. They all have no accountability for how they treat others so actually having consequences blow back on them really blindsided them. They never apologise. My mother, when she knows she has pushed me too far and is scared of the consquences, i.e me disowning her, she'll also ask me if I want anything and she'll pay for it, but never an apology.
Even if it scares or teaches them to be marginally less judgmental and mean to every other person in their life, it's something I would be proud of. No way to ever know, though.
I agree, though, it's best to manage your expectations with people like that (your mom) and never expect a genuine apology.
