There are a few things that I watch when I am really low and need to see something that verbalizes the feelings I am having. Derek DelGaudio's In & Of Itself is one of my go-to's for that sort of thing. If I just want to feel happier though then it is a ghibli movie usually. What about all of you?

I like to watch animal documentaries narrated by David Attenborough, I find it comforting.
Other times I like to watch darker stuff where I feel I can relate to the characters and then I feel less alone in my darkness, can't really think of an example right now.
One great show is After Life.

I've never heard of After Life, definitely gonna be one I look into now!
I like Bojack Horseman for a show that feels like it balances hard-hitting moments that resonates and aligns with how I feel sometimes and some good comedy in there. It isn't for everyone but I like it.
Yeah they are great. Especially when having high anxiety or feeling really scared. Nature is calming. I like too watch all animals except spiders, my favorites are elephants, birds and ofcourse cats. Which do you like to watch?

At this point I do not really enjoy movies and shows. I find it hard to concentrate. Nothing makes me feel better. I might rewatch some anime that I liked in the past, maybe some sad ones like Your Lie in April and Angel Beats.
Nowadays it's difficult for me to enjoy movies or tv shows. For the most part im only into older movies, I really like The Mummy (1999), Executive Decision (1996), The Bodyguard (1992) and North By Northwest (1959).

I love to re-watch all the old shows from my childhood in the late 80s and early 90s. Star Trek the Next Generation, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Red Dwarf... which you probably haven't heard of outside Britain!

I like to throw on either a edgy YouTube video video like mumkeys stuff or something akin to too many cooks, or a episode from any of the aria franchise (animation, natural, origination). Being essentially slice of life one can slap pretty much any of them on anywhere minus the last ep and just relax. Just three female gondoliers in training living in Venice on Mars. No drama, just comfy.

I'm excited! I'm planning on watching a bunch of new stuff this weekend so I'm putting it first on my list!
It's a pretty interesting show, the 11th episode of each season especially has a reputation for being sort of hard-hitting. (Obligatory warning that it covers stuff like sexual assault, substance abuse, child abuse, and suicide, though that last one is probably less of an issue than the rest for folks on here.)

I'm sorry you haven't had anything you enjoyed lately. I love Angel Beats too though, I recently rewatched it and I was surprised by how well it held up! Your Lie in April is my brother's favorite too. If you rewatch some let me know how you think of them now!

I've never heard about any of these! Definitely adding them to my list, thanks!! I honestly don't know a ton of old movies to recommend besides some of the more well known. I have watched a few that I love though that I can't entirely remember, I'll have to ask my mom about them, lol.

Lots of great classics! I haven't heard of Red Dwarf but am pretty curious now! I love the fantasy aspect of these sorts of shows though, even things like Star Trek.

Have you heard of Nexpro or Reignbot before? They cover that sort of creepy stuff on youtube and I really enjoy their stuff! They lead to a lot of good recs for things too. I haven't seen Aria but I love animation and stuff so I'm gonna check that out for sure.

I don't have any specific shows to run to, but oftentimes just marathoning any series that's nostalgic to me can be enough to metaphorically take me out of this reality and into another one.

I have a number of comfort shows/movies/games. Though it doesn't seem to work the same as it used to. Recently I started watching a video of someone walking through times square in the snow. It's kinda dark and the buildings in the distance seem to be covered in mist. The screens are bright and pretty. There are (relatively) few people around and there's no talking throughout the entire video. That's the best part for me. Listening to people talk just tires me out. I must have watched that video about ten times this last week. Very comforting.
After a long break from the television, I'm finding myself more enthralled than ever by Star Trek: The Next Generation. I'm patiently awaiting the new season of Curb your Enthusiasm, and also getting spooky by watching numerous horror movies daily. Things are comfy here.
Oh wow, I love this franchise :: I couldnt get into it at first (commitment vs distraction issues),
but by the 2nd series I was hooked :: I couldn't function with /without it.
I found the third series was much better than the first, purely because of that added theme of hopelessness. The fact that the leading character uses such darklyshining humor to get through the despair of every soul-destroying day is really relatable.
And the fact that I miss them when they not around is proof that I'm not completely emotionally void.
:: (erm... can destruction maybe even be an emotion?!)
I can't imagine living life without this distractive coping mechanism.
Oh wait, I can...
..(imagine not living life).

Red Dwarf is known here in Australia - aired on ABC our BBC equivalent (ABC airs heaps of BBC stuff). I love it as a kid, but when I tried rewatching it as an adult it just seemed lame. But I can see how if it was your childhood favourite you might still love it. That said I love Benny Hill so clearly I know what I am talking about........ :-P
My comfort show is perhaps 'The Sopranos' the greatest TV show ever made. Hardly seems comforting, but I have seen it so many times the violence and whatnot does get to me. There is something comforting in watching something you have seen before.
I LOVE this movie. I don't watch it as often as you do, but it's definitely one of my favorites and is uplifting with just the right amount of relatable darkness in Emma Thompson's character. It's my favorite Will Ferrell movie. I also usually hate rom-coms, but this movie can really stand on its own with the unusual premise and great performances from pretty much the whole cast.
That said, I rewatched it a few months ago, and it was troubling to see how much I haven't really changed since I first saw it 15 years ago aged 13. Like Harold Crick, I feel like I live life on the margins so to speak. My life has very little meaning, and I feel like I will never matter to people. That the fundamental feeling of alienation was so present in me even then as a kid is just sad.
To answer OP, I would also add Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and The Count of Monte Cristo w/ Jim Caviezel. The latter is pretty brutal in the beginning, but it tweaks the original story from the book to provide a more standard heroic arc than the jaded, confusing mess I found the book to be.
...I go through this phase every year where I obsessively keep this on re > play > peat :: not into drag myself (though I have worn sarong skirts) but appreciate the artform... (appreciate Rocky's bodybuilding artwork also!)
It's those last 5 tracks on the album that get me everytime :: the wierdness, the truth beneath that we hide, the alienation and it's loneliness when you're different...
"cards for sorrow, cards for pain..."
Esp: "im going home"... ... now where's my dvd remote..?!

Hey, what's the movie from the Home Alone scene with the shotgun sounds? And do you also watch TCM before any modern TV? I have this feeling you and me could be twins these days, you know..
I do this too! I think it's for escapism, as I feel like I need to be surrounded by niceness and to feel safe. My old favourite comfort series are Dr Quinn, medicine woman and The Waltons. I also watch sentimental movies, especially sports ones for some reason ( I don't like sports). I also used to watch Garden state, another movie which has relatable problems and a happy ending, but more recently I've watched Short term 12 a few times.
