  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

I'm extremely disappointed in this.

For those who don't know, commotio cordis is a phenomenom that happens when you get hit in the chest at a certain time of your heart cycle and at a certain force (mass x acceleration).

Ultimately, this leads to cardiac arrest (your heart stops). The problem is, this is extremely rare, and for good reason.

I've been hitting my chest for a couple days, at very different speeds and with different objects. If one of the three variables fails (location, timing and strike force), the heart won't suffer any consequences

This drew my attention because if commotio cordis happens, you have 95% chances of dying. People only have 3 minutes to resuscitate you, and if somehow they do, the chances of long-term damage are actually low.

Don't waste your time. I've tried a lot: On different surfaces, different chest locations, using protection, no protection, ramming aginst a wall, lying on the floor, on my bed, standing up. Hitting fast, slow, etc.

The heart cycle lasts around 1000 milliseconds from what I've read, and CC can only happen within 40 milliseconds out of those 1000. We probably don't have the force required to hit ourselves hard enough to ctb this way.

I really wanted this idea to work, but alas.

Agree. This would be the single best method ever if it could be replicated.

A crazy idea (probably dumb too) is to stand in front of those baseball throw machines, straight to the chest, and set the speed to 40mph, and wait till I finally get it right. This is the speed needed to cause the cardiac arrest. To be noted, even with protection you can get commotio cordis, so I don't even need to hurt my bones or skin.

Peace.

At that point the amount of pain and the length of time required being pelted by balls would just make it the worst suicide method ever, given the low success rate.

Defeats the entire purpose of a quick and painless death

That's actually pretty clever.
