i THINK i might have hsv1.
i already purchase cold sore medicine & today is just stage 1 i believe because my top upper lip has been tingling almost ALL day.

idk what to do or how to feel. i already told my bf about my suspicions but im still kind of sad about it.
i asked if he would break up with me if i really did test positive & he said no but its still scary to have.

MOST ppl dont wanna date someone with hsv1.
the "good" thing about it is that hsv1 isn't always because of having sex or kissing someone, it can be just sharing items with someone who u were unaware had cold sores.
on top of that, its pretty common (and is typically asymptomatic)

but im scared of transmitting it to my partner or my other area.

i hope it isnt true, but i have no idea what else it could be.
this obviously isn't a topic of suicide but its made me feel a bit down today and idk what else to do

i thought at first, these small bumps on my lips were from this cheap ass dollar store lip oil i was using (i sure hope its just a reaction and NOT hsv1) but i believe it just might be..

i've had cold sores since i was a kid lmao i'm pretty sure literally everyone has hsv1, its kinda crazy that you just got it if this is your first time. idk what actually causes cold sores to appear initially but you shouldn't stress out about it seriously, it's not that crazy. 80 percent of people have it, and i've never heard of anyone struggle to date or not want to date someone because of having it. i haven't had any cold sores in yearssss for as long as i remember. so as long as you dont have oral sex or anything during an actual cold sore appearance then i also don't think the chance is high of it spreading to genitalia.

okay thank you for this <33 im trying not to stress about it because i dont wanna make it worse for my body especially since it may be my first ever outbreak.

i already told my bf like obviously if this is the case we'll have to cut back on sex & what not which he didnt have an issue with thank god lmao

but tysm <3 i just hate the stigma surrounding cold sores in general.

it is common for a lot of people to not know they have hsv1 (for example contracting it as an infant/an infant being exposed to it from skin to skin contact or saliva from someone having an active outbreak ) as it could lay dormant for years or decades even

for example there was a woman who went viral for her story of how she got dark spot treatment/chemical peel and then she had a flare up afterwards and couldn't believe it and suspected it was the practice she went to (long story short there was a dog in the room for some reason)

yesss thats what im really concerned about. i heard its a lot more painful than the mouth area because well i mean..the genitalia is already very sensitive.

im sorry you're going through that tho. i wish more ppl were educated when it came to these things & didnt just view others as "dirty" or as a someone who sleeps around.

& yea i tried explaining to him that he would most likely have it too & hes ljke "i dont feel anything" and i literally told him u can be asymptomatic for a very very long time.
idk, it made me kind of annoyed bcs why are u choosing to be ignorant lol.

yeah the fact that a lot of people have it & may or may not have active break outs does help me feel A LOT better. i do feel bad for the ppl ive shamed ( in my mind) because of how dumb i was when it came to this topic tho.

yes there are medications to help lessen outbreaks & treat them but herpes in general is lifelong & incurable :((

now im not a doctor but this is very common. One of my parents had it and he had no issues, the important thing is you don't have contact with anyone when you have flare ups. But it usually lays dormant most of the time unless you get stressed out. You either got it as a child because someone with it had contact with you or you unfortunately got it from someone or somewhere recently.

I knew one kid in high school that had a different strain I'm not exactly sure but it was one that his partner would end up getting it if they ever did anything seggual

Either way, you have a flare up, isolate, clean everything that's been in your mouth. Rule of thumb don't share tooth brushes or other things like that even without a flare up

Hope you feel better, if your doctor is cool you can ask all the silly questions you want to them to make you at ease

Here's just one more comment to reiterate that most people have it or have already been exposed to it, and that most adults understand it's no big deal. One tip I recommend is using lip balm that contains lysine every day or night if your outbreaks are frequent, if not, then just when you feel one coming on. Doco on Amazon is the best kind imo. Just try to learn what your biggest triggers are (chocolate, nuts, sun, stress) and try to avoid them. Don't stress too much, you'll get through this.
