The absolute highest frequency ever achieved by a CPU to date is about 9121.61 MHz (9.12GHz) by a professional overclocker wytiwx, it was only about 4MHz above the previous record and was done with Intel Core i9-14900KF. This is only the second record to breach the 9GHz territory.
To put 9GHz into perspective, there's an internal clock inside CPU that goes back and forth, with 9GHz speed it means the clock can go back and forth at the rate of 9 billion times per seconds, Basically by the time CPU completes one single clock cycle, light has had only enough time to travel about 3.3cm in distance and CPU can do several arithmetic operations within one clock cycle with multiple cores.
