I wrote a thread about the political developments in the US back in 2022 when the Supreme Court overturned Roe vs Wade, and I could write something again in response to the election results but it would be an almost identical thread, calling out the theofacist Republican party. Instead I just want to offer my condolences to anyone who lives in the US. Many of us probably didn't expect this outcome, some might have a dejavu to 2016. It must be horrible to go through this election cycle, especially if you're part of a marginalized group yourself and therefore at a higher risk of targeted legislation in the foreseeable future. Like we all know what prominent members of the Republican party said about women, migrants and queer people in the last few months and which plans were unveiled to crack down on minority rights. I'm trans myself and I feel for everyone who is under attack and threatened in their very existence by the upcoming Trump administration and I've already drawn out the dystopian future that awaits the country in the thread I posted back in 2022. We don't know yet how bad it's going to be but your fears about your future and rights are valid in my opinion.

But I hope this forum will be one of the safe places where you can express yourself in the upcoming months. I can't speak for other members but I believe in many of the values that lost this election and I'm definitely on the side of civil rights and personal freedom, things that might come under attack very soon. This forum will be a safe space for the people who need it, it has been in the past and nothing will change that. My post history probably already gives away my personal bias but I just wanted to let you know.

And sure, you could ask the question now, should an admin of a forum like ours even make political comments? Yes. This forum is in a way inherently political due to the nature of the discussions that take place here. This forum is universally condemned in the media and there have been political attempts to get rid of us, yet it's elections results like these that drive members to us. A large part of the electorate just said "I don't care about suicides" because the upcoming 2-4 years will drive up suicide numbers in marginalized communities, without a doubt. It's unbelievably hypocritical to attack this forum as "pro-suicide" when we're merely pro-choice and in support of individual autonomy and then they vote in politicans with a pro-suicide agenda. How does that make sense?

And again, threads like these where I talk to the community directly regarding political developments which are harmful to the most vulnerable groups of our population won't get mentioned in any news article about our "pro-suicide" forum because again it's inconceivable for the media that we're actually people with empathy and that the entire moral framework for the existence of this forum is based on compassion and bodily and individual autonomy. The values of this forum are basically very basic humanist values. No, it's totally not worth talking about that when describing the entire forum as collectively pro-suicide, it's not like many of our members are in some way directly affected by such harsh political outcomes which puts someone like Donald Trump into the White House.

The results of the election and the harmful implications will without a doubt drive more members to us, who have intentions to escape whatever is inflicted on them by the current political landscape but I hope we can all make it together through the next 2-4 years. @rainwillneverstop created a thread with some resources for those who live in the US: https://sanctioned-suicide.net/threads/usa-election-a-note-from-staff.185146/unread

To the people who belong into the camp that won, be nice. There is a reason why we have so many queer members in our forum and many of them live in jurisdictions that are threatening their existence. And many of our members living in the US will be affected by policies put forward by the Trump administration. I sincerely hope time will prove me wrong but I'm not very optimistic.

Thanks, everyone.

I don't think the place is "inherently political". The forum and suicide are shunned by just almost everyone in the planet. You confuse it with euthanasia and you won't find support for this in a party.

Also most discussions refer to the ethics and people doing it themselves than the state providing it. It's something too individual to affect anything at a goverment level, and realistically, it doesn't have chances to reach those.

Cutting people from the forum isn't gonna help at all. There are many openly pro-Trump, anti-abortion, members who support this place even of they're a minority. I think the more people can participate, the stronger the site is.

On the other hand, conflating the whole forum with a single idea makes it much easier to attack, as if your only way fails, then you have nothing else to defend it.

When the government itself is actively oppressing already-marginalized, vulnerable groups and fuelling public hatred against them, it becomes necessary for people in influential positions (like @RainAndSadness as the admin of this forum) to speak out in support of them.

If pro-Trump anti-abortionists feel under attack as a result of this support, then they need to check their own emotions on the matter because they're not the ones in danger of losing their access to healthcare and other social services that are vital to their very existence.

Never said otherwise, they deserve support.

?

No one said that either. I'm just saying boxing the whole suicide discussion into a rigid set of ideas is not productive, and people should not feel discouraged from joining. Of course there are rules against hate speech so said people can't attack affected groups.

I'm just sorry for the pain and anguish people experience which drives anyone to seek oblivion in death. I've yet to encounter any politician or political party which, when it achieves power, improves anyone's lives or situation except their own.
They stop the gravy train just long enough to climb aboard. This Forum brings more support and consolation to the suicidal than the lot of them.

I don't really see the core of this website, suicide, being political.
Usually I think it's best to leave politics out when one is the representative of a website, company, etc. However, SaSu has a different nature as communication with admins and mods is much more personal than anywhere else. They deserve to be able to express themselves as other members would.

I'm not in the US but I've seen how many members have been distressed over these news. I sincerely hope nothing bad happens and that you're all okay 🫂

I understand and I will be more mindful in regards to that. But can you please not let this forum turn into Reddit 2.0? Reddit is already extreme anti-trump and pro-trans and if you have any other opinion (even if it's in the middle) the moderation and users are biased and you will get censored, blocked or banned.

I like this place because it seemed pretty genuine and we can be honest with how we feel without having an outraged mob of censorship directly in our face. I got warned yesterday for mocking someone's pronouns or autism (telling them to chill out and they won't be hunted down in the streets) and then I asked the moderator if that person ALSO got warned for insulting OP, but I got no answer. I'm going to assume it's a no, which seems biased.

Edit: Also I reached out to you and another staff member months ago about my account/posts needing help and I just got ignored, even after asking again. Not sure what that is about.

I can't stop people from posting political threads (aside from blocking them) but I would appreciate if the moderation keeps their personal bias in check - if such a thing exists, not accusing anyone just stating IF - and doesn't show more mercy or lenience to one side, that is all I ask for.

yeah, there's gonna be a lot of trump supporters joining this forum over the next couple of years when they realize they can't afford to live in their molded trailers anymore thanks to their waifu's failed econonomic plan. let's welcome them with open arms so we can all have a good laugh at their expense.

Well, the good side is that the elections did not end in a genocide like in a certain country (sarcasm)

I honestly did not want Trump to win because in one way or another his measures would affect me and many Latinos like me who only want a better life, but it is equally worrying the setback that the country is making in terms of individual rights and that these are celebrated as if it were something good

Definitely global politics has already become a circus for me and honestly I do not expect much, apathy has taken over me now

I'm glad this stance has been taken especially with the high demographic of the people at risk here.

I was thinking the same thing. I'd be interested in seeing data about new registrations to the forum and I'm sure other people would too if you're willing to do that.

This forum has a high demographic of the people Trump will discriminate against so I highly doubt there will be any kind of significant Trump support aside from the vocal minority. Then there's also the people who personally know others here which can very well be those same people he's discriminating against and why would they like someone who discriminates against their friends? This is ignoring the idea people can find discrimination to be frightening or morally wrong too.

"Pro-trans"? What does that mean? Pro-trans rights? Against discrimination against the transgender community? Seems like you're missing the point of why people are worried. He's very open about spreading conspiracy theories about trans people ("They're doing illegal transgender operations on illegal aliens in prison") and the rapid increase of hate crimes. That is a 32% increase from 2021 to 2022 when Biden was president and people didn't need to worry about their rights getting taken away and actually gained protections and rights like Biden allowing transgender people into the military. A president spewing hate speech in front of his audience that adores him and removing those same people's protections and rights seem like a pretty good combo for inciting violence. That's an optimistic look at things too.

People have different opinions, but on reddit you can basically not say anything but "transpeople are amazing and there is never anything wrong!" or you catch a ban. As a woman, I was critical against transwomen competing against women in esports in the same class. There are definite advantages the male brain has over the female brain and in sports, even esports, all of that matters even the smallest % does. Faster reaction speed is one male brain advantage and as far I'm aware hormones don't change all of these difference definitely, I have not seen one study that would confirm it. And turns out a high % of the best women esports players are trans. What are the odds? But just saying that got me permabanned. It's a total echochamber hugbox and you are not allowed to say anything but what they think is right.

I would appreciate if that didn't start here. I'm not even here to debate any trans-stuff, you can do and be whatever you want, it is your body.
I just explained what I meant, to answer your question.

Right now I see people have screaming meltdowns, wanting to commit mass-suicide, burn themselves alive and think they will get send into camps or murdered in the street because of Trump. I highly doubt that will happen. Tensions might rise though and maybe some debatable laws will come into play but at the end of the day I don't think it will be this apocalyptic genocide scenario people paint it out to be. That is just my opinion.

I reckon that as soon as he gets into office, our lord and savior donald trump will make inflation go in reverse, gas prices will be one dollar a gallon. Gaza will continue to be blown to oblivion then he will get rid of the mexicans and every family will be one man one woman two and a half kids plus one dog just as jesus intended amen. (Sarcasm)

It seems like you haven't read Project 2025, or Agenda 47, which is an abridged version of the former. Donald
Trump absolutely will have the power to throw transgender people into conversion camps, prison, even if there is not an outright genocide. Of course that's assuming he gets around to it, but the man has also said there will not be another election, so there is plenty of time.

Reddit isn't even that pro-trans outside of a few "left" leaning subs. What is "Pro trans" anyway? Treating transsexuals like normal humans that aren't freaks? Unfortunately when you have privilege, equality feels like oppression.

Like others have said, LGBT are more likely to be on this forum so I don't think you will find many Trump fans here or even people who want to take a "both sides" approach. Hell, I'm centerist who thinks democrats are annoying, but even I know he's gone way too far.

Unfortunately, liberals and democrats, being the well-intentioned idiots that they are, have ruined any chance for transsexuals to be seen as normal humans and not some new "woke" concept, because they want to use minorities as political pawns and now it's backfiring for everyone. Most transsexuals don't even want to be be known as such, yet you have leftists trying to increase trans "visibility", which is the dumbest thing you could do.
