Was listening to Tom Petty singing "I'm Learning to Fly" and "I won't back down" and remembered it was reported it was initially thought he died of cardiac arrest. I looked it up and learned it was concluded he died of an overdose. I didn't know about this update. Was a great singer.

After months of speculation, a medical examiner has ruled that Tom Petty died of an accidental overdose, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. The Hall of Fame musician had taken several pain medications, including Fentanyl, oxycodone and generic Xanax. Other medications included generic Restoril (a sleep aid) and generic Celexa (which treats depression).

I think it was an accidental overdose. He was overprescribed. He wanted to spend more time with his granddaughter. That part broke me.

I got to see him twice. He is the reason I'm still here. There is something about his music that makes things better for me in my head for a little while.

Thanks for saying that, my wife turned me onto him, and I am better for it. Rob Thomas, singer/songwriter
from Matchbox 20, said Petty was one of his greatest inspirations. The article said it was thought to be
accidental because his hip fracture worsened yet he kept keeping tour dates. When he arrived at
the hospital, he was breathing but no brain activity, so they withheld treatment, and let him go peacefully.

It always surprises me with stars and athletes are given more pain meds than they'll ever need. While the rest of us are treated like junkies if we ask for something a little stronger than extra-strength Tylenol.

I fell in love with Tom Petty when I was two and have been carrying a candle for him ever since. He seemed like a really nice guy. I wish I could have met him in person to thank him for everything.

It always surprises me that his promoter and manager didn't monitor this closer. If they were good at their job, they knew and did nothing. If they were bad at their job, Tom made a mistake in hiring them.

He was a brilliant talent. It was also known that he had a drug problem. He should have been monitored. @SinisterKid
