A philosopher said the above quote. And I told this to a friend of mine, who's a legitimate billionaire. And he said, "that's me." This is a man with over $800 million in cash and he feels empty.

This is how big corporations are ran... Having a company that makes enough to pay for all its employees to have good lives is not enough... having a company that does that AND turns a profit to reinvest in the company OR save is not enough. Companies have to grow marketshare year-over-year and increase profits each year or they are considered (and consider themselves) failing... which makes no sense at all... and it leads to risk-taking and decisions that bankrupt businesses, choke workers, or worse.

Enough is never enough for some people... especially the kind of people who make it to the top. People at the bottom scramble for scraps, while people at the top have so much excess they can never use it all and still they want more. This will crash the world some day, as it historically tends to do when there is extreme imbalance in society. And people never seem to learn to curb this behavior.

I think that can be true. We don't always take enough time to 'smell the roses' and appreciate where we are/ what we have achieved.

I wonder if it's an evolutionary trait though. To ensure we don't just stagnate. If we are always slightly dissatisfied- it pushes us to keep going.

It really fascinates me with myself in computer games. I've tended to opt for easier settings recently because, I'm playing them primarily to relax. I don't want to necessarily get attacked every three steps and, I don't want to have to keep replaying the same part over and over. That said- on a few games, I think I've gone for too little challenge so- it's become boring. I think it's so clever the way game developers work in just enough challenge or- provide options for different levels.

As a species though, I think we maybe need challenge to not get bored. So- maybe we're wired to never be entirely satisfied.

Maybe having less can help these people. Donating to charities. If they haven't done this already. It gives societal status and for some a satisfying feeling. I think so much money would attract many fake friends and fake partners. Maybe hiding one's wealth can even be beneficial to a certain degree.

Rich people don't do anything cool anymore except for rockets. They no longer build coliseums, theaters, libraries, opulence and vanity statues - it's lame, weak shit. No aesthetic.

A friend of mine is funny. He said, "If I was one of your clients, I'd have 10 gf's, I'd be on constant steroid cycles, I'd beat up homeless people because I'm rich."

But I take his point. Rockefeller at 90 supposedly was sweeping his orphanages. Maybe it was bs but it was certainly a different culture back then.

"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?"
