So I think most of us here are aware that OD is probably the least reliable way to CTB. You always hear the stories of how people pass out and are out stone cold for a long time and then wake up or are found and taken to hospital. So I'm wondering and I'm genuinely curious, why do people not combine OD with a more lethal method? Like ODing in a pool or bathtub or with their head in a noose? Wouldn't that make so much more sense than just lying in bed?

The other thought I have is I've been searching and reading a lot here about combining methods or taking meds and/or alcohol before CTB and I don't understand why people don't consider securing their hands? It almost never comes up. I was reading an old thread where people were discussing hanging and drinking or taking benzos before hand. And people kept saying 'but what if you're so out of it you end up just taking the noose off or untying yourself?' and I just thought...but why not just tie your hands behind your back? Like put your head in the noose, take your meds or your drinks and then cuff your hands?
Is there a reason why securing your hands (and feet if necessary) never comes up? Because that would be my first thought and precaution.

I think that for many people, being restrained in that way increases the anxiety and, by extension, the SI.

Also, many people here have been traumatized in their lives and being restrained may trigger flashbacks.

Just an idea.

This is true. I hadn't really considered that, but having your hands bound could cause more anxiety. I've only thought from a practical point of view.

This was my plan the first time and is my plan now. The first time I combined it with cutting my wrists - could hardly call what I did 'slitting' - which is not a reliable method itself either. Didn't use antiemetics and ended up vomiting the OD. So that was doomed to fail.

I will combine OD with jumping / drowning this time. As for precautions, I will wear a weighted vest to keep myself from swimming to shore. I considered getting weights specifically for my limbs to prevent flailing, but those seem to be too light and slip off easily, whereas I struggle to take off the vest sober and on land.

I've been following your plan and it sounds very thorough!

Thank you, haha, that was quite reassuring to read. If you've got any comments, critiques, questions etc at any point - please send me a DM or respond to my thread - this goes for anyone, not just Ta555 :)

I greatly appreciate outside perspectives, as when everything is contained to my own head it quickly devolves into thinking myself in circles and getting nowhere rational. That leads to further feeling hopeless with no solid footing and increases the likelihood of an impulsive attempt to end the misery. Whilst I try to do it myself for the most part, I do not know everything and there are many details which those with expertise in the area will be able to elucidate.

I feel the same. I feel that any method I think of is really complicated and prone to failure but I think it's just my imagination for the most part and that in practice it would probably go just fine. It's good to plan but sometimes we just end up psyching ourselves out on this site I feel.

OD on what?

I wouldn't say OD is unreliable. Guess it depends on what you are taking. Plenty of people easily OD on things like heroin and fentanyl completely by accident, I would imagine if you were actively trying to do it it would be nearly foolproof unless you got with a narcan shot... Technically N is also OD.

Most of the failed attempts here have been with psych drugs where people just sleep for a day or more and then wake up either at home or in hospital.
