I havent seen this yet, and I'm assuming the film is mostly about his actions during the recent covid era, no?
Whenever I learned about how this guy responded during the AIDS crisis, it really shocked me. How could he keep a job in this field (in such a high ranking position, at that) after those blunders, and still continues to hold power to this day? The United States is a goofy ass and corrupt place.
No doubt thousands of lives were ruined by this man, from his resistance to trialing new treatments for AIDS, to the misinformation he spread about the disease being transmissible by sheer touch alone. When we think about barbaric or ignorant practices being upheld in the medical field, we tend to think of medieval era poultices and getting intimate with leeches.
This man's unbelievable mistakes are only a few decades old, yet seem to be forgotten or unknown by the general populace.
In my book, I recount how slow the federal government was in publicizing the use of Bactrim and other sulfa drugs to prevent PCP (the pneumonia that was then the leading killer of people with AIDS) in addition to its long-time and well-known use to treat PCP.
