Have you ever known (or known of) a person who always seemed extremely happy and well adjusted, with no physical or mental illness, who just killed themselves one day?

Twitch, the dancer and DJ from Ellen seemed happy from all accounts. I haven't known anyone personally like this though.

I've known two people like that, one had a wife and two kids, a job and a band, and no one was as shocked as the wife.

Being suicidal is doesn't have to be a synonym for being sad/depressed, I'm sure if you research you could find a lot of cases, there are a lot of persons that suicide because of specific reasons, and do not have an overall "bad" life

its not as uncommon as one might think. a simple google search will lead you to a list of people with varying cases. i havent known someone personally like this though.
from an outside perspective, im a happy person, i have a decent life, and id have no reason to do this. and honestly, my life right now isnt bad, objectively speaking, but i have been through way too much shit before this. i've been abused in too many ways, too frequently, and when it stopped all i could think about is "i cant let it happen again", and the only way to be sure is by not existing anymore.
people may seem happy but we dont know their before and their inner thoughts. eberyone has a pain limit, and sometimes we reach ours and cant risk going beyond it

Yes two guys. One I was in a band with in the 1980's, met him at a party years later. Seemed fine but hung himself two weeks later.

Another guy was only 21, had been out drinking with him & a few others on the Friday night. He was laughing & joking, hung himself on the Sunday night. A mutual friend was his housemate & found him in the attic.

does that happen most of the time? depressive people often imitate happiness so no one can know what they are going through because they are afraid of being judged. but you never know about the demons a person has to fight with. they only seem "happy" as you said

In an interview, writer Thomas Ligotti spoke of what he termed proactive suicide. Suicide before whatever horrors make life unbearable. He thought this was the hardest kind to pull off. Indeed.

Yes. A guy I used to work with was an ex soldier. He had 2 beautiful kids, loving wife, nice house etc.
He would always cheer me up at work because He had a brilliant sense of humour. Always smiling, laughing etc.
Then one day, He hung himself in an outbuilding at work.
Just like that.
No warning that anything was wrong with him.

Had the guy seen any combat?
Yes, He had been a sergeant in the UK SBS.
Nobody had any idea what a fucking badass this guy had been in real life.
I mean the SBS is an elite regiment.
He had been in both gulf wars and Afghanistan.
But there was much more he had been through when talking to his wife.
She said that he was ok until something bad happened in South America.
I don't know why the UK SBS would have gone into south America except for some kind of dark ops mission.

I had a supervisor that was a US Marine in Vietnam. He was the best, most decent man I worked for. But he had obviously seen some very heavy stuff. He once told me that when he first came home, the news of someone's death just left him numb.
