I believe the 6° mass extinction is already happening, mainly because of humans. Climate changes are occurring way faster than the planet can follow, we are just beholding the fall of humankind, and most of the world with us.
I've been mistreated during most of my childhood, I've seen how evil this world can be. I am from Brazil, have seen a lot of misery around there, left Brasil looking for better conditions and to be free from my father, so I moved to Ireland. It opened a lot my view of the world, to see how culture changes society and how good and bad can it be world wide. So many people from other nationalities leaving their countries in search for a better life, but now Ireland is suffering a housing crisis and the problem is not getting better, in the end all the world is just getting worse. The greed of the man molded by the capitalism make so is just possible to arrive to the top the ones able to climb the ladder made out of bodies. So much slavery, discrimination, suffering, sadism. These social media algorithms create echo chambers trapping more and more people in a sea of misinformation and hate, polarizing them more and more, there always must be an enemy.
Not saying that socialism or whatsoever would work, I think pretty much any system would end up collapsing, but now we have the this one. the truth is that the capitalism is fed by infinite desire, in a finite world. The amount of species and the speed the environment is changing is as big as one major extinction, and is not getting better. we are seeing drastic climate events that are not normal, caused by what we are becoming, but we are not going to be the first species to fuck the planet though, some Carboniferous trees have made a minor extinction event that happened around 305 million ago. Kind of funny in a way, after all of the discovers we've made, we are going to fuck up as same as some brainless trees.
Going through existentialism I've seen how pointless and meaningless be alive is, at the end nothing truly matters, I keep asking myself the reason why I do what I do, the more whys I ask, the more I realise, we are just suffering, solving problems, stressing, walking through a rope trying not to look down, but the rope has no end, you can hang in there as much as you can, you can look down, in the end you're just going to fall. Stoicism says that I should understand the things I can control, change and if is my responsibility, but even if I cannot change global warming and I should concentrate in my own happiness like help my mother in brazil, or trying to be a good person, and create nice bonds, is pretty hopeless to know the permafrost is almost irreversible and it's just getting worse and some uncommon floods are causing a scorpions infestation in my hometown, which bite my mother and she needed to stay in the hospital for three days. I have a very deterministic view of plenty of things, in the end, we are being controlled in so many ways, politics, social media, labour, money, hate, the past. All I want is to be free. The last healing of Greek god Asclepius is to cure us from the sickness of life, and I think my time has come to accept it.
For me, this is the final cost of freedom, how difficult to loose the strings
I would be open to talk about it, honestly I cant have a proper conversation with anyone, because they would just try to stop me, not have a real conversation. Every time has bee like this.
I have no idea how a dm here works though.

Outstanding post. I'm kind of at a loss for words, but so much of what you said about the 6th mass extinction, climate change, environmental destruction, and capitalism feel like something I could have written myself. I've spent the last decade or so immersing myself in information about the anthropocene and climate catastrophe and it really is so much worse than most people realize.

It's definitely enough to cause an existential crisis.

Also, I am sorry for your mother and hope she's okay after the scorpion stings.

I'd love to PM but you need more posts first. Your account needs to be more than 24 hours old and you need 10 - 20 or so posts (not exactly sure how many).

No need to rush things. CTB is the last thing you'll ever do, and if you do it impulsively there's a big risk of failure. Take your time and look into the sticky threads here on methods, etc. and try to figure out what's right for you.

In the meantime, SaSu is a great place to be open and honest without the fear of being involuntarily hospitalized or medicated, stigmatized, etc. There's loads of kind people here who will listen and talk with you to help ease the loneliness.

And if you feel like you're unsure about CTB, there's the recovery forum for support.

Mm, good post, my viewpoints are very similar, and I'm pretty sure this aligns with the viewpoints of many people here. Society's a big bitch and humanity is fucked, personally I'm actually looking forward to a mass extinction event, first of all, a lot of people deserve it. Second of all, I wanna watch society collapse. Third of all, I want to die. <3

honestly I have attempted already when I was younger, I was able to put my hands in a revolver, but couldn't do it, in the end much greek young stoics end up killing themselves. I am planning, when I said tried tomorrow I was talking about dm ahaahha
my main case is mainly due to the awareness I have, the real feeling of hopeless, and that I cant do anything to stop, doesnt matter if I give changes to a homeless, I might be able to help for a while, and then on the next street would be be two more, in a way or another we are all sponsoring suffer, there is no conscious consumption
honestly since my 13 yo I was already thinking I would end up dying by suicide.
you know? is kind of what is the point? why this matter? the more and more I see is that it doesnt

How old are you now?

I never really seriously thought about suicide until I was 18; but that was a very long time ago and I've been suicidal many times since then, sometimes for years at a time.

Existential nihilism isn't really my main reason for CTB, but I do understand where you're coming from when you say you feel powerless to affect real change in the world and wonder what the point of any of it is. I think a lot of the problem is how global, fast-paced, technological, and socially abstracted (social media, texting, email, the internet) the world and society have become. Not to mention the 24 hour news cycle reminding you of the suffering in some other country that you can't do anything to help. Back when society was small and you mostly only knew the people in your own city or village, and the news was mostly local, it probably felt more meaningful to try to help others or at least there probably was less of a sense of powerlessness and everything being out of control.

Are you familiar with antinatalism or the book "Better Never to Have Been"?

I think you and the user FuneralCry would have a lot in common.

It's undeniable that this world is such a hellish place, one that I could never wish to exist in. I certainly could never see any value in being trapped in this cycle of meaningless and unnecessary suffering that only exists to torture existing beings, death certainly is the only relief from this curse. The existence of life in this world certainly is the most cruel tragedy as humans do create endless amounts of harm, but anyway thank you for sharing your thoughts. There are no amount of words that can describe how much I despise life in itself.
