A couple of months ago I have found a book called "The complete manual of Suicide", a japanese uncensored book written by Wataru Tsurumi and published in the year 1993.

It describes a lot of suicide methods (Overdosing, Hanging, Gas poisoning, Electrocution, etc.) and the "hardness of living".
Each chapter begins with a graph assessing the method in question in terms of: the pain it causes, effort of preparation required, the appearance of the body, the disturbance it may cause for others and its deadliness.
Each of these matters is also rated by skulls, with 5 skulls indicating the highest rating.

I am very interested in reading this book, its like a dream for someone suicidal, but sadly there is no translation of it in english. Looked through it on every internet site possible, spent hours and hours trying to find the english version since I can't read Japanese, but nothing.
I wanted to ask if anybody on here has heard of this book and knows if theres a translation available to share.
You can find the book in its original language on amazon and other sites quite easily, I even found a part of it as a pdf, but yeah...not in a language I can understand and speak.

I have thought of paying a japanese-english translator but the book has 198 pages which would end up being quite expensive - and I don't have any friends or relatives that would do it for me.
Additionally.. I dont think anybody would be willing to translate this book since it is about suicide.. even if you'd pay them
I wonder what you guys think about it.

Wow thanks a lot for this info!
I'm actually learning japanese but my level is barely intermediate! Whenever I learn more I'll certainly read it.

Anyway, it would be great if there was an english version!

I heard about this book when I went through a total obsession with the Aokigahara Forest as apparently this book was often found amongst the belongings of people who ctb successfully in there. I'd also love to get a translation..

I was actually considering learning japanese just for the sake of reading this book, sounds stupid but it just seems so interesting to me!
I hope your studying goes well ~

Ironically, the author wrote this book to prevent people from attempting to do CTB.
To imprint severe fear in people's mind with vivid descriptions. That was his strategy.
So because of his motive like this, this book is not being censored in Japan still.

Anyway, many suicide bought this book and it helped them a lot also.
I would like to translate it into English, but I am under the very strict law of South Korea.
If I share the link of SS with others? Oh, they can throw me into a jail for that easily!

Some time ago, I bought this book (along with its companion, "Our Opinion about the Complete Manual of Suicide") with the intention of translating portions of it (I was going to ask members which parts they wanted to read because I was not about to re-write an entire book lol) that I would later post here. Most of the book is very technical in its presentation and some...not so much. I found that some passages bordered on "flowery" if I can say so.

When leaving the forum last spring, I had abandoned that project because I felt conflicted about it. Someone even asked me about it in the time that I was away and I was not open to providing him with a translation. I think that this is still true today. As hypocritical as it may be for me, I am extremely reticent about sharing the contents of that book (or any information that would cause others harm). If you are so inclined, there is a pdf version of the book floating around on the Internet, but unless you have a good command of Mandarin, it won't be of much use to you.

If I am being honest, I didn't find that book to be all that ground breaking. English homologues would probably provide the same "benefit" less the Japanese zeitgeist of the 1990's.

The first time I found out that hanging is generally considered painless is by reading this book. I always thought death by hanging is the most painful way to die.

It is possible to read The Complete Manual Of Suicide in english on the Internet: docshare02.docshare.tips/files/25185/251851473.pdf. There is a suicide forest in Japan and in this forest The Complete Manual Of Suicide lies a bit everywhere and skulls from people who committed suicide in the forest. But The Peaceful Pill Handbook is the best book on suicide.

I don't know anything about this book but the pph and lostallhope are my two favourite resources, I think that they're mandatory reads for people seeking information on suicide methods. there's also something on the suicide resources pinned post called suicide faq that's definitely worth a read.

The original Japanese language consists of 199 pages, this is 86 pages English version. However thanks for the link.
