sometimes I think that our overall society is already doomed. We don't have any future. Humans are born without asking their permission, told what to do, think, be, buy and then kept alive. I used to think it was a conspiracy designed to benefit the rich and keep others enslaved but the same degree of crap exists at every level for everyone.
The strange virus of paperwork, requirements, expectations, contracts, and goal of dehumanizing infects everyone at every socioeconomic level.
I recall going to the passport office once on a rush request for a business trip. The patent office was filled to beyond overflowing with every manner of every person taking vacations, trips, business meetings. The room held about 200 chairs and there were three security guards who were there to 1) make sure you had an appointment 2) make sure you only sat in a chair and did not sit on the floor or stand agains the wall and 3) used no electronic devices from a kindle to a phone to a video game for fear of privacy rules. You also could not sit in the hall and had to wait outside the building though it was on the 6th floor. So people traipsed up and down the stairs or elevator checking to see if there might be room hoping that they could get a seat but not wait and watch for a seat and hoping they didn't miss their name being called. The security guards were more vigilant on the three rules than Taylor swift bodyguards.
As I made it through the long day nearly 7 hours I was called and told I had the wrong form. I asked "do I wait in line again or fill it out here". She said fill it out and come back and I asked "wait in the line again or come back"
At this time all three security guards came up and escorted me out stating that I could not be standing there if I was not actively getting a passport.
I came back the next day and waited another 6 hours.
The entire system was designed 1) to ensure no emotion could occur and 2) to prevent anyone from capturing the inhumanity and complexity on social media.
I believe this bureaucracy is alive the same way that a virus is sort of alive. It's not conscious as a virus is not either but it needs us as a host and it is part of why suicide is morally bad or bureaucratically against the law.
