• Hey Guest,

An update on the OFCOM situation: As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. OFCOM, the UK’s communications regulator, has singled out our community, demanding compliance with their Online Safety Act despite our minimal UK presence. This is a blatant overreach, and they have been sending letters pressuring us to comply with their censorship agenda.

Our platform is already blocked by many UK ISPs, yet they continue their attempts to stifle free speech. Standing up to this kind of regulatory overreach requires lots of resources to maintain our infrastructure and fight back against these unjust demands. If you value our community and want to support us during this time, we would greatly appreciate any and all donations.

I've just received my SN today and it feels like a great weight has been lifted, now I have a means to exit. I am also a bit of a sceptic so I was wondering is there a way to test whether I have SN and what the purity is? Thanks in advance.

Damn, you beat me to it!

The search function is also a magical thing. If it's food grade or lab grade from the information part of your purchase it should be fine (assuming it states that)

Make sure you test very close to your day. When you open your SN, it begins to absorb moisture in the air and eventually converts to Sodium Nitrate, which is not useful for euthanasia. I don't know how long it takes to convert to SN.

I'm not sure if testing SN is even necessary. I think it's illegal to label SN as "food grade" if its purity is less than 98%.

Thanks, I'd only test a day or two before as I don't want it to degrade. I guess I'm just being wary of taking something that might not work but as you said I am sure they cannot sell something else as SN

I must admit, it is such a cheap substance and legal to make I can't see the logic of having fake SN being sent. If bought in a western country, they have to abide by certain regulations and the fine they get for selling crap is substantial.

Mine came from Poland so I assume it is pure, guessing I'm having doubts it will work now I have it, but maybe I'm worrying about nothing

I have to ask, does anyone know anything about the conversion rate from NaNO2 to NaNO3? We have NaNO2 in the lab, it has been opened since 2002, solidified, but works absolutely perfectly as a reagent.
So I have no idea what the timeframe is for the conversion. It doesn't make sense to send out packages of 500 g to 5 kg if it oxidizes within a year or less.

I thought as long as it is sealed air tight it can last for ages

I don't think you need to worry if you have yours sealed air tight! As someone coming from a lab background, I think people here are very twitchy regarding the potency of their NaNO2, which doesn't diminish if you have it open for a while or if it has solidified. If you think about it, if it would lose potency that easily the standard packaging sized wouldn't be that huge, no one would order 1 kg or 2.5 kg if it goes off as soon as its opened. Then the packaging sizes would be vacuum sealed plastic pouches containing something like 10g, 50 g maaaaybe 100 g.

This is a purely academic question regarding the conversion rate, don't worry! As I said, we even use it in the lab and it has been opened in 2002 and it is still fine and does its job!

Exactly! Companies have an incentive to make high-quality SN because they need to sell the product.
