Welcome to 2025 where division reigns supreme, the rich do whatever the hell they want, and the poor fight each other over meaningless arguments meanwhile governments choke out our rights. For a period of time people in the west were gaining more rights and freedoms but since the 2020's human rights have been decreasing in the west. Like the UK is basically on par with south africa in terms of LGBT rights. What the fuck is wrong with this world. What the hell do rich people have against us, why is the media so hateful against trans people in the west.
Hell even china has a higher public opinion for queers then the UK at this point. It's clearly funded by whoever's lobbying politicians and it's like their targeting western countries one by one, the UK first then the USA and now Australia. You can tell by the way the media has been changing the way it reports on stuff like TERF protests :/

Rich people really are fucking everything up and the worst thing is they're gonna be the ones to survive the hell they create. The meek are not the ones inheriting the earth.

this has been happening forever. i think the more societal flourishing happens, the more bullshit non-issues there will be to set people against others over. only if the citizenry was a homogeneous mass would there be no fuel for the arbiters of our torment, and of course that never was or will be the case because humans are heterogeneous by nature. differences in sex characteristics / physical appearance (especially via "congenital disability") are core features of human life but the more we (rightly) expand and diversify the scope of performed identify, the more subgroups there are to make into boogeymen. and obviously people with distinct "racial" (constructed as that is) characteristics exist and have been othered forever

the term "barbarian" came into being among ancient greeks who couldnt understand another nation's language (forget which); it's a derogatory imitative term - they thought it sounded like everyone weas saying "bar bar bar". the transatlantic slave trade is obvious. irish immigrants in the u.s. used to not be considered white and often work alongside - and were similarly despised - as people from or descended from africa. signs went up in businesses saying hippies weren't welcome. all of this has literally been going on for time immemorial - the game is the same, if the board, pieces, and minor rules might have changed over time.

the only unique piece to the moment imo is the omnipresent sur- and sousveillance; this is not to discount the harrowing nature of this fact of reality. but the other fact that oppressors have been oppressing using division as a main tactic is nearly as old as the history of human society.

There was a period of time where the average person was getting more freedoms. Like freedom to love who they wanna love and freedom over their own bodies. Along with other stuff like deminishing racism and trying to improve the quality of life for the impoverishment.
But rn the west is regressing on all those things. So :c its joever ig

Continue to preach. The US is pretty fucked too with "little T," both for rights of LGBTQ+, women, and immigrants. I need a drink...

Nah. I don't wanna start any big arguments but TERF protests don't actually care about women. If they did they wouldn't be sponsored and supported by far right think tanks like CPAC for example.
TERF ideology is based on the concept of divide and conquer. Making minorities fight each other (women and trans* ppl of all sorts) so they won't realize how badly the system fucks both of them over

Freedoms are often an illusion. This is my cynicism showing full power, but...

People who want freedom the most are the people who don't have it. People who have it tend to take it for granted. That would be okay, except that there are people who want to inhibit freedom of others to gain for themselves... so the vast majority of people who are taking their freedom for granted tend to want to stay out of the muck when a fight breaks out and it doesn't seem to directly affect them.

Speaking for the US, since that is where I've been all my life... I go back to freeing the slaves. That's a loaded topic right there. It gets typically framed as the evil South wanted slaves and the righteous North wanted to end slavery so all people were free. Except, that isn't quite true. There were benevolent people in the South who treated slaves better and there were some free black people as well. Meanwhile, the driving force in the North to end slavery was not so much about freeing the slaves as it was NOT wanting to take black people into the westward expansion. The North didn't want black people around at all... slaves or otherwise... so it wasn't really about freedom but was about trying to not have them around. When you think about it... next to the people in the South who outright abused their slaves, the people in the North wanting to get rid of them was the next worst thing.

Also... post freeing the slaves, how free were they really? They didn't own anything, couldn't own anything for a very long time, and had no generational wealth for all their time in the country and working hard. How many things did slave labor build and they reaped no benefits once they were free. And to rub it in, the North rubbed it in the face of the South for losing the war by sometimes putting black people in positions of power in the South. Not in the North... no... in the South... trying to rub it in the South's prejudice face AND really not doing the black people any favors by supporting them when trouble happened.

We still don't have true freedom and equality across the races.

Now about women... Know why women really got the vote in the US? Sure, women wanted the vote but not as many as you might think were in the movement AND how were women going to get the vote unless they either fought a civil war over it OR men voted to give the women the vote... and guess what happened? Women got the vote in time for the vote on Prohibition. There were a lot of men who wanted Prohibition, but not enough to pass it... they rightfully figured that IF they gave the women the right to vote, which was an easier sell than Prohibition... then they could get enough women to vote for Prohibition to pass that. Sure enough, that's how it happened. Those men mostly didn't give two fucks about women being free to vote, and you see that by decades going by before women could own property or open bank accounts in their names, etc. Hell, women today are losing rights like for abortion (whether you are for it or against it, it is a right being taken away) and women can't have hysterectomies usually without permission of a man. Think about that.

We have the illusion of choice in all our elections because the people in power pick the candidates that they tell us we must choose between every time. It is nearly impossible to run a random candidate and get any traction.

I could go on and on and on, and also on and on and on... The people running the show foster the illusion of freedom because it helps keep people in line. Throw a few cookie crumbs out now and then to keep people from truly rising up in opposition and you can have whatever you want at the top... and on the side sell hard on the idea that people can work hard and earn a spot in the power broker club, and every now and then let someone rise as a token proof of that to keep the doubters from revolting too.

Democracy and Capitalism are two of the best friends to people who want to maintain power over a long period of time. The old despots finally learned that their time was limited because if you keep your boot on the throats of the people too hard for too long they eventually realize they have no choice and will die to revolt and overthrow you... but give them the illusion of freedom and choice and they will follow you right off the cliff without blinking an eye. Most of them anyway.

I'm transgender and I live in a state that doesn't care about people like me. I consider myself very lucky that I was able to get my documents legally changed before everything went to shit. I feel so bad for people who aren't as lucky as me and can't change their name/gender or even go out in public without being bullied. I'm lucky I pass as a man in public because Jesus Christ, people are truly ruthless here. I came out the closet in 2019 and I am very disappointed in how much things have negatively changed within those years between then and now.

Yep. They are the typical shitty human who'd be nothing without their little hate group so they cling to it until the day they die. It's pathetic.

As for any super radicalized group, I feel bad for some- or even most of them. My mother fell victim to TERFism a while ago and it's been hard.
However I hold no pity for the main influential figures in this group. They know exactly what they're doing and how they're impacting people who need an ideal to cling on to.

I can understand that.
I always try to give advice if I meet someone like that in my day to day life.
But honestly in the eastern european country that I live in, most people here are either brainwashed by religion, are children raising other children (even if they are 40 on paper, they still act like kids and are susceptible to these hate groups) or are just hateful people with huge complexes and egos.
So you can't really work with the people here, everytime I used to give some advice or try to debate in good faith I'm met with disdain or belittling.

You sound like you're trying your best- I get that, my country has these problems as well.
People don't have much issues with trans people over here though, because they've got other scapegoats, I guess. 🤷‍♂️
