Nancy Crick Nancy died 2004
So did I. I'm not really inspired by anyone. It could be an unhealthy obsession to have so much interest in suicide that's not your own.

I think this is dangerous territory idolizing or admiring suicides. People end their lives because of immense pain and desperation. Even if they are calm in the process. It's not something to be elevated, inspired by, or imitated. It's the most desperate, hopeless thing anyone can do even if there is a reason people would mostly say "I can understand that" to. If we have to do it we have to do it...but any sort of lionizing of the process is wrong in my view.

i must say that i don't agree. as everything on this world or in universe, suicide should not be seen or taken or talked about without considering its causes and consequences. everything in this world, every word or concept should be deliberated attentively. it should neither be treated without criticism or reflexion. but for me and in general, suicide can be some kind of liberation. some kind of step to a hopefully better world. it can even be something like the achievement or end of a long way. it also is (this might sound sad) a sign or a realization of self-determination. it even can be the realization of self-determination. in this sense, suicide can be something very nice. it can be some kind of deliverance. and that is something very positive.

the things that are bad and negative are the causes of suicide, the reasons why one wnats to or has to commit suicide. but i think nobody idolizes or admires these causes.

The recent Etika and k0u suicides. And really every suicide in the news. That's why the Bastards want to mute the news of them.
Etika chose a tough way to go. He drowned after falling from a bridge. Bad way to go. I envied he didn't seem to be so depressed as me but ye had other issued which also made him suffer. They're at peace at least.
It's not that they inspire me, I don't need that either. Just some reassurance that suicide is something not so uncommon as people want you to think

Are there any notable suicides you admire? The means/reasons/results?

Here's some of mine:

Finn Yeats - A Kiwi (like me) who went on a week-long road trip around the North Island. Didn't check into any motels, didn't come up on any CCTV cams - the only trace of him before he died was his car being spotted in a seaside town. He ended up near the Tongariro National Park, which is a beautiful and surreal part of the country (I know it's the set of Mt Doom in LOTR). What's really impressive is that his family is relatively famous (his sister is well known for having a rare brain disease) and even with seemingly the whole country on watch he still managed to ctb successfully. I'm considering on doing a similar trip, see special places, holiday locations and such before I'm gone.

Richard Russell - We all know this one. Airline worker steals an empty plane, pulls off some insane stunts, gets a birds-eye view of Puget Sound and the Olympic mountains, crashes harmlessly into an uninhabited island. Aside from being so awesome, it seemed in the day or so afterwards that the world were generally accepting and charmed by this idea of suicide. Maybe if a few more brave souls do something like this suicide can become a choice respected by society.

"Lyle Stevik" - Real name unknown. SS debates on whether we want our bodies found, whether we want our families notified etc. Lyle got the best of both worlds. His family weren't immediately traumatised because they found out about his death 17 years later, and he also wasn't forgotten about completely because his identity was eventually confirmed. Somewhere on an SS thread is a link to pictures of his body with the noose still attached, and he looks completely at peace like there was no struggle/death throes at all. It's probably the least traumatising outcome I can think of.

Would love to hear the stories you know.
That plane story is insane! Can't believe he wasn't even a pilot. He sounded like such a sweet yet v troubled (obvs) soul. Heart breaking to listen to the audio.

The self-immolation of Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thich Quang Duc in 1963 stretched my understanding of will power. The photo of him in flames while he sat in a lotus yoga pose won awards that time. His was a religious-political motive but to me it speaks of the unimaginable tolerance that mind can have.

I don't think people mean inspire by the way you are thinking. People who decide to end their lives just don't want to feel alone, so they need someone who felt the same way and commuted the same act they plan to. Suicide is my best option in my situation and I didn't want to feel alone, so I googled celebrities who have done it as well

Chris Benoit, Mike Awesome, and Sean O'Haire.

I was a huge pro wrestling fan and they all used my primary method of hanging. Other than thinking about all my regrets and crushed hopes/dreams I'll probably think of them not long before I ctb.

Hopefully you are not planning on killing your family first like Benoit did

I still miss Etika a lot. He got me through a lot of bad times. Unfortunately I feel like he is a prime example of irrational suicide (not because he had everything since that means nothing, but rather because he was in a very emotional state of mind if you look at his last video).

The J O Y C O N B O Y Z live on though

I was very much impressed by one of our members, Trynacbt's recent Goodbye thread. She was so diligent with communicating all her emotions and steps, close to the very end as promised, thereby assuring me at least that the method is almost painless. She verified at the end that it was peaceful leaving me with a sense of comfort every time I read it. She even joked throughout and after taking the SN said "are you guys sure this going to kill me?" Bc it was so anticlimactic. She made it look easy and that's inspirational.

Also Yukio Mishima. Seppuku. You can see the photos of it online. He planned to do it after completing his novel tetralogy. I have it on my shelf, I wish I could muster up concentration to read it. I'm sure they're great novels. If only I had a superb goal like that to accomplish before I go.

I want to make an effort here to honour those humans who through the ages have diligently and insistently helped and risked being incarcerated and fined in the criminal justice systems of their jurisdictions, and fought relentlessly in the courts and in societal debates for others to be able to receive the dignity of assisted death..I am hoping to join their ranks or perish.

Joel Darlington. He couldn't play soccer anymore and that was what he most loved. He didn't have a purpose anymore and that's exactly how I'm feel these days. May he rest in peace.
Keith Noel Emerson from Emerson, Lake, Palmer. He died via a self-inflicted gunshot and he did so partly due to health reasons and also the loss of the ability to play as well as he once did, due to his right hand being messed up.
Well I'm in a similar situation I can't play music like before due to health issues and that depress me a lot. I can't enjoy what I play anymore
