In my philosophy class today we were discussing organ donation and the morals/ethics of it. It got me thinking about my own views on organ donation. My father needs a double lung transplant and a liver transplant, so it's a bit meaningful to me. I always wanted to help people, and I think when I finally CTB I would want to do it in a way that would render me brain dead, so my organs can be harvested (you have to be brain dead, otherwise they can't use them). What are your thoughts on it? What method would you recommend for me going about this plan? How possible would this be?

What method?
A gun, I think so. Or maybe hanging.....

If you really are interested interested to donate your orgams. (I am so glad you thinking on this way. It is so generous from you) you have to be aware to be found so faster as possible

Top tiernpost.

I thought about the same. Wasting your organs is selfish. With N and S/N that's hard. Gunplay could be a solution. Challenge is ensuring that you are taken to a hospital to Harvest.

On a morbid note you can just follow Falun Gong or commit crime in China and the government takes of everything for you.

Donated organs can only be harvested from a live donor.

Poisoned (includes overdose) victims cannot be donors.

You'd really need to ctb with docs standing by in order to donate your organs.

A gun/hanging would leave me totally dead though, and I just need to be brain dead. I have ideas on where to CTB to be found soon after, I just don't know which method I can use. If I'm not going to use my organs, If rather someone who needs them to have them. (:

Yeah, I don't think SN would work and I haven't read up much about N yet to see how it works. I'd need to be brain dead so guns wouldn't work. The last part made me chuckle, only if I was there.

I'm pretty sure overdoses can donate organs though? I will have to look into it. It might affect a couple organs though.

Philosophically I'm an antinatalist and considered the potential of someone surviving thanks to my organs only to breed more people into this miserable place reason enough to take myself off of the organ donor list.

I would however consider donating my organs in exchange for assisted suicide if it was possible, that feels like a fair trade to me and I'm animal enough to selfishly ignore my own values for a peaceful exit.

Any mention of poison and usually your organs can't be used. So SN, N etc rules that out in most places.

I've seen it done twice on two tv shows and both methods didn't seem wise for this. One was Tylenol od and one was gun.

It's only possible in a rare circumstance where you're alive, they don't know you've been poisoned/overdosed, and you're declared brain dead. This happened to me, falsely declared brain dead because they were not aware of a massive amitriptyline overdose until someone received my suicide note. My CNS was completely shut down with no brain activity and when they tried withdrawing the ventilator I did not try to breathe at all which is why I was declared brain dead. I am an organ donor and my parents had given the ok to harvest my organs. I was about 3 hours from that when my friend rushed the note to the hospital where I happened to mention amitriptyline which nullified the diagnosis of brain death. This is really the only circumstance I could think of where it could happen short of CO poisoning or a rare borderline case of failed inert gas poisoning where you're alive but have gone brain dead and you're kept on life support until harvest. The chances of this happening would be based purely on luck of the draw I think, unless I'm missing something.

Squirt was the OD intentional to CTB or was it a mistake?

I totally get that reasoning. I'm the opposite though -- utilitarian (I am starting to question this though).

He's never had one to begin with, metaphorically of course.

Thanks for sharing this story -- I think I will do a little research into amitriptyline. Even if it's luck based I would like to try to do whatever has the best possibility.

I looked into it, and those who OD can donate organs (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5988527/ opiate ODs). Now just to figure out what is too much and what is not enough...

Man that's a crazy story, and now you've made me curious. After all of that did your viewpoints in life change at all?

Amitriptyline is peaceful, but very very slow and the key question would be keeping it down. I took quetiapine and Benadryl with it.

It's a shame it's not more viable, physician assisted suicide could really boost the supply of donor organs for people who actually want to live, but no we let many of those people die and force the people who want to die and donate organs to live.

With the current system it's far too risky, too much one way and you die before they can get you to hospital and your organs are spoilt, too much the other way and they will try and save you and keep you alive on a machine for years.
