  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

People say its selfish because they aren't the one that is going to have to deal with the aftermath, this is such bullshit.

I am completely pro-choice, I think everyone should have access to things that prevent suicide such as good counselling and medication to stabilise people, but at the end of the day it should be a human right to choose when you want to die. I strongly believe there should be measures in place to give people an easy way out, to make it as painless and as quick as possible, because people are suffering and those who have never experienced this kind of pain will never understand that. Obviously is should not be available on impulse and other options should be tried, but it is cruel to let people suffer. I wish no-one felt the need to commit suicide but it is a fact that so many people do, and so many suffer from failed attempts when all they want is peace.

It is selfish to force someone into a life they don't want because you are afraid of grief.

For some people, suicide is the most selfless thing they can do because they feel they are a burden to others, and if you don't see them as your burden they prove to them they are not.

Of course is not. Selfish is when you suffer or in trouble (doesn't matter what) and nobody gives a shit about you and when there is no more options for you but to CTB, they will judge you, like you're not a victim but a criminal that hurts surrounding people. It is your right and chance to have a way out, since you can't expect someone to take care of you.

The only thing which stops me committing suicide is that my brother is suicidal and I can't bear the thought of him making that step on impulse whilst grieving for me. This is how I know I am not ready, but I hope that one day soon I will be able to not feel so guilty.

the same person that called me selfish for just thinking about suicide is the same person who cut me off because I was stressing him out with wanting to kill myself. I am not saying I didn't put him through stress because I know I did, but he has acted so carelessly towards my life.

I am in no way encouraging you to follow through with your plans, however if you do decide to CTB maybe just make sure he has the correct support in place. I don't know his situation but make sure your parents and a doctor know he is at risk, make sure he has the help if its too late for you

It's the most disgusting form of victim blaming that I could imagine. You think they want to just kill themselves if they had an option?

In my opinion, suicide is not selfish, it is just a basic human right. Selfish are those who will hold the person who wants to go because of their own reasons.

whats more selfish is wanting someone to continue suffering through a life/situation they didnt ask for just because you want them there for YOUR satisfaction.

obviously theres nothing wrong with someone's friends and families being concerned for someone, trying to talk them out of suicide since they care for them, but there are people out there who will lose all respect for you and view you as a selfish loser if you suggest you're suicidal or "dare" go through with it. as if they can judge, having ZERO experience in your shoes, as if they've faced every struggle imaginable. those people, are truly narcissistic pieces of shit. i wish they had to live with my pain for just a few weeks, they'd quickly change their tune and whole perspective.

I could argue that people who want to keep a suicidal person here just because you need them are selfish

with those kind of people I try to explain why im feeling the way I do, but they just tell me im wrong for feeling that way. I know some people will never understand what being suicidal means, but I with they would listen and take our word for truth

It always horrified me when people would say that. How could suicide ever be considered selfish?
I can see where people are coming from with some points. I mean, suicide is a thing that an individual does for themself, though their reasoning may be they feel others are better off without them, but its not a choice for people. suicide is a last resort, how can it be selfish when people are choosing the only option they feel they have, they aren't being selfish, they just don't know what else to do.

it is the responsibility of others to show them another option in life, or to accept their decision and let them pass with dignity

I have never considered suicide a selfish act, although all of those around me do. I think the truly selfish part of life is expecting someone to live through their endless pain and suffering, just because they are here. No. Fuck that. We all deserve a respectful death with dignity.

Yes, we did not ask to exist in the first place so it isn't like we have any obligation to stay alive. We all deserve a right to die. I agree that it is selfish expecting people to stay alive when they are suffering and it is clearly against their wishes. Many people who say that suicide is selfish, haven't been suicidal themselves so they cannot comprehend what it is like.

You know what's actually selfish, having kids and forcing them to live and then watch you get old and die (possibly suffer because of your old age) but oh yeahhhhh we are the selfish ones right?
