I noticed this earlier and it's really sad but not at all surprising. The quality of life in America (even globally) just keeps getting worse and worse. It hurts to read this knowing I have loved ones in those statistics but if psychiatric help was more readily available and people took others seriously, we wouldn't be in this mess not to mention increasing our quality of life so we all have fair chances of succeeding and at living our best, happy life.

I lost someone two years ago to a drug overdose and he desperately wanted to get better but facilities kept telling him he wasn't bad enough to be taken in and even if he did, he couldn't afford the bills and everyone refused to help financially even when it came to just out patient therapy. So he couldn't stay. Society has failed each and every person who has lost their lives to drug overdose or suicide and it's a shame. Stuff like this really angers me because a lot of these cases can be prevented but unfortunately as much as people preach to help people like that and us, it rarely happens.

1918 life expectancy was 39 years,According to the article.

Now people commonly live to be 80/90 yrs.

I guess people are unwilling to perform in a glorified forced labor camp. Rats in a cage.

Seeing this, most pro-lifers just keep banning methods of suicide. Have they even given a thought of improving the world, instead of saying "You can't die?"

Where's that pursuit of happiness? Oh that's right it was just a dream. That's because you have to be asleep to believe it as the late George Carlin once said.

It seems Logic's awful suicide hotline virtue signaling song did fuck all LOL
but in all seriousness that song may bring hope to the mildly hopeless, but for most of us here we know better.

Your name and quote about summarizes my reason for wanting out of this rat race. Life here on this planet could be beautiful if it were not for human corruption and greed within the militant, authoritarian structure of state-capitalism.

Exactly what it is. Billions of people in a panic trying to find a master to work for so they can have food, shelter and healthcare. Fuck this.

I was listening to some news talk radio near Atlanta yesterday and they were on this subject.

They got some "professional" to talk to them about this situation. Had I been there, I would have "professionally" knocked him the fuck out.

He claims that suicides aren't due to financial issues, mental issues, marital issues, and so on.

"They are just lost souls who can't find their way. There are all sorts of help out there to deal with finding out about yourself. These people are just seeking attention and are draining resources."

WAIT, WHAT?

This douchebag had no clue what he was talking about, and just kept ranting on about it.

I also like how he says "Woo!" a bunch of times to show us that he feels are pain.

I know i always wake up in the morning and say "Woo I'm so excited to be stuck here for another day!"

What i find sad is people who want to kill themselves but can't, the people in the stats at least don't suffer anymore.

Suicide, at 50-year peak...

WHAT'S DRIVING IT?

CDC officials did not speculate about what's behind declining life expectancy, but Dr. William Dietz, a disease prevention expert at George Washington University, sees a sense of hopelessness.

Financial struggles, a widening income gap and divisive politics are all casting a pall over many Americans, he suggested. "I really do believe that people are increasingly hopeless, and that that leads to drug use, it leads potentially to suicide," he said.
Contrary to modern psychology, suicide is not always an internal pathology that is in need of a pharmaceutical cure. External factors like "financial struggles, a widening income gap and divisive politics are all casting a pall over many Americans" can be causes too.

Happiness is overrated anyway. Most people just want a purpose but in this shallow consumerist world, your purpose is to spend.

I don't need to be happy and anyway I feel it is best fleeting and transitory. I just want to feel like I'm more than just my emptiness.

I doubt any changes are going to happen. People will just say it's because of electronics, social media, or millennials and gen Z are apparently weak and narcissistic. I mean, people are already saying that.
