I've seen so many deaths in movies I'm kind of desensitized to it. But it's also because it is so unrealistic. People get shot and it's instant death (if it's not the main characters). People also commit suicide as if they're chosing what's for dinner. "Can't tell you the top secret so I'll just slit my throat" "My family just found out my dirty past so might as well jump over this window right here." They make it seem ridiculous. I wish death was that easy.

It's easier to try if you haven't read up about all the things that could go wrong or experienced the pain of attempting before. I've come close to jumping before and after all the reading I've done about it I don't think it's possible I could get myself to do it. I just hope I don't find something bad out about sn.

Well I suppose. But we are supposed to relate to the main characters who usually don't ctb so easily.

I think it's pushing the notion of "suicide being the easy way out" and partially responsible for the ignorant crowd that form the idea about suicidal people are "coward" if they ever chose to ctb

Which is absolutely naive and ridiculous to believe so because if it's that easy, like half of us on this forum would be chilling in the void by now

Yeah, I know what you mean. Movies are just an glamorised version of real life. It can cause feelings of frustration if we attempted to ctb as we expect it to be easy but in reality it is so hard to die. Often people only realise that when they actually attempt to die. We are exposed to death through the media which gives it that illusion.

I mean it would probably be quite boring to watch somebody stand around and walk in circles agonizing over their choice and coming to grips with their survival instinct only to eventually decide they're too cowardly to go through with it. It's easier in fiction in order to keep the plot moving forward.

I know what you mean. I wish it were that easy to do. Why can't it be that easy?

I think movie portrayals of suicide are ridiculous and harmful and cause suicidal people a lot of harm as they seem to basically romanticise long, painful and often ineffective methods to the point where most suicides are painful because the perpetrator simply didn't think it was possible for suicides to be easy and painless. It makes my blood boil.

The only real scene I've seen in movies is the one from Dead Poets Society.

I thought this was one of the best suicide attempts from the show, The Sopranos. It didn't glamorise it in anyway.

I personally know 4 people who successfully ctb. Ist attempt. My Father attempted but he failed and died miserably in a care home ( which was his reason for the attempt ). He ended in a care home because when he was young, medieval quacks tried ECT for his depression. The treatment fried his brains and he got early dementia. Curiously, he was an electric engineer by profession and twice electrocuted....but survived to suffer at the hands of doctors who successfully electrocuted his brain🐱
